What setup and why?

Being an owner driver or small operator is not the wisest way to invest your hard-earned.
Having done it in the 80s when you could (and I did) make money as an o/driver, I wouldn’t dream of doing the same today. I was on £1 per mile on my own direct work when fuel was about 30p per litre, if the same ratio applied today the rate would be around £5 per mile, is that the average rate? if so I would be surprised, I know some guys on traction work up to about 5 years ago were still on not much more than £1 per mile.
You could just about get away with murder at that time, where as now you risk being jailed for tacho offences and the like, so why would anybody think it was a good proposition to own your own motor, in such an over regulated industry where the odds are stacked against you.
I’m not knocking the likes of Harry, at least he is having a go, and I wish him and others in it on here the best of luck, it just aint for me anymore.

My set up would be penthouse flat, hookers, marching powder and a large stash of rubbers

I’ve had the money, set fire to it, the agony isn’t so prolonged .

totally agree with above. but if you had spend the money…
i would stick the money in BITCOIN , 50 /50 chance of a decent return for those that like to take risks, which are certainly better odds than the haulage industry as a small operator, but with none of the ball ache!!!

Harry have you started another compamy or someone stole your name

Theres a harry monk transport ltd in kent

On topic unless getting into niche market and only gonna do low paid traction
There be more profit in A sprinter van these says

I took a full load up to Liverpool a few weeks ago and the bloke was telling me that he used to have artics and carry full loads but now he only runs two sprinters , he get a £ a mile for them and he says they pay for themselves in no time. If you can get the work I suppose it makes sense, no 6 weekly checks, no Vosa, Tacho or egotistical Class 1 drivers

I dunno about a truck, but it had crossed my mind that the strip of land next to the off ramp of the S/B A1 at blyth (opposite the services) might make another truck stop
