Its a Scania 80 super an 81 one of the first trucks i drove after passing my test in a 1970 ERF
sure its not a scania 110.
Saw an old Rover once parked just off City Road. It had the number plate WAR 999 Maybe they are related…?
I t is definately an 80 or an 81, and being as it is ‘S’ registered, I’d go for it being an 81.
Also, I wouldn’t mind betting that it is ex Brain Haulage. They had loads of them.

Pretty likely i reckon, ‘AR’ is a Chelmsford registration.
Looks like the 'orrible 80’s that I very briefly drove for Stirlands on night trunk in the 70s.
Horrible and briefly (one night only ) because the heaters didn’t work and for some reason that made them even icier than the Atkis (Borderers). Yes, even in the dark ages you could sometimes get away with flinging ‘HEALTH AND SAFETY’ at the boss and get away with it
.
Reckon that particular one must be a lady’s motor - check out the houseplants
I never really worked out the numbering with Scania. Was the 86 only a rigid as I drove a 6 wheel Skip wagon.
I remember the 80, 81 and 92 were all artics.
I presume they were 8 litre series 1 (81) etc. 11 litre series 1 (111) and 14 litre series 2 (142)
Wheel Nut:
I remember the 80, 81 and 92 were all artics.
They were all available as rigids. My dad used to drive a Scania 81 drawbar.
There is also a Scania 92 six wheel rigid big hook skip loader still in use just a few streets away from me.
S Reg 81 I would think 80
s were a little earlier Don
t knock them most were sleepers at that time sleepers were just starting to be a must have
MAT Transport and Wake Transport from Hull did trips to Africa and Pakistan in day cab 110 and 80’s with fold down bunks
It’s deffo an LB81 as it’s a tractor unit. (The ‘baby’ Scanias, we called them…)
We had 3 of 'em at Wilkinson Transport, Chester depot ( the Express Parcels firm later taken over (and ditched) by Fed-Ex.)
(Bright Orange vans - anyone remember them?)
I can even remember the reg. numbers - a bit sad, I know -
All 81s : OUK 786R, ROB 95R and SOC 918S
Deesider Its strange , I can never remember any numbers at all. & that includes the car I have had for the last 10 years…
