Not expecting a call of them anytime soon though.

I’ve just reduced my hours to 3 days/27 hours per week, on the wind-down to full retirement in 3 1/2 years’ time. I’ve no intention of driving a lorry for a living after that date, although I might renew my licence for the first 12 months “just in case”.
i’ve just got my new contract for a 3 day week,28 hours per week, starting in January …although it states ‘Saturday if required due to contract requirements’.
I have recently started another night trunking role - even night trunking has a different feel depending on who you work for. So I’ve got my mojo back after a depressing exit from the last bunch of cowboys. Amazing how much I find it pleasing and settling to have the same well cared for unit every night, doing the same run, and having plenty of time to myself at my destination to have a kip.
I’ve fallen foul of trying different stuff, some things transport related, but not always. I even tried working in the police call centre for as long as it took me to realise I was completely unsuited to the job (I had to pass the mental agility tests and interview - go figure, as they say).
Sometimes it takes a life changing event to make the change, like being made redundant. I’ve seen a friend recently go from decorating the windows at Debenhams to being a healthcare assistant in a hospital. She loves it.
I sometimes say to my wife that she should study counselling, something she always talks about. But it’s tricky when you are getting paid well and have respect and a purpose.
For my part, I’ve tried to change, but am now glad I just changed the company I work for.
When it comes to HGV driving, here are many industries surely? Is changing sectors, companies an option if your unhappy with your company?
I appreciate that most companies now have cctv in the front windscreen, but I appreciate how intrusive it must be to have a camera permanently in your face too… is this actually legal?
I’ve reduced my hours down to zero for the next 3 weeks, as I’ve 15 days holiday accumulated and don’t start back until 3rd January, so I’m throwing all caution to the wind and hoping on a plane to the canaries tomorrow for 10 days, returning on Christmas Eve.
So even if I have to isolate for 10 days when I get back I have all of Christmas week with holiday pay to relax at home while isolating, and the beers are already in the fridge and the freezer is well stocked
