What is the percentage of owner vs employee drivers in UK?

Hello,

I was just wondering if you take all lorries in UK. What will be percentage of lorries owner VS. employee drivers? Average!!!

My estimate would be that around 1-2% of drivers are owner-drivers, at most.

We a dying breed :frowning:

poxy legislation has made it a pain in the arse to set up on your own nowadays.
we should have a system of presumed good repute with the right to an o’licence for a nominal admin fee, then if you run bent you lose it.

Constrution industry 80%? mixers&tippers with all the major players are O/D’s but are captive, tied by vehicle finance deals & contracted exclusively to the major co’s,they seem to have less rights than employed drivers,as an ex-O/D now retired said to me “at least Roman galley slaves did’nt have buy their own ships”. As for general haulage I’d agree with 1or2%!
