OK, I now understand.
Reasonable I would say is Time and a half mid-week, double time at weekends, and triple time on bank holidays!
Anyone agreeing in their contract to items like “50 minute over-run not paid” is effectively agreeing to extend their working week by 5 hours for the same pay. Don’t accept the thin end of the wedge - Ever!
If the deal is “Sign it, or get sacked”, then let yourself get sacked, and sue their butts off making sure a special mention is given to the jobsworth that tried to bring the bad news to you in the first place…

Now just remember we had our guaranteed hours cut from 50 to 45 hours! Now seeing as we don’t get paid OVERTIME rates I think twenty six hours is a reasonable amount of FREE time for stobart wouldn’t you agree
!
I know very little about Stobarts rates of pay/conditions etc.
Are you saying that after you have done 45 hours paid work, you then go on to do another 26 hours UNPAID work?still get paid at FLAT rate! No incentive to work weekends once you’ve done 71 hours mon- fri and four nights out! But we earn enough for doing nowt anyway! Easylife

I seem to recall when working at ASDA a few years ago, left in2005, they tried to sack a driver down south for refusing to work a reasonable amount of overtime as stated in his contract. He went to court and the judge ruled that he thought a reasonable amount was 15 mins a day! Yes 15 Mins a DAY.
cheers for the replys gents, i,ve given her all your worldly words of wisdom and told her if all else fails tell them to shove the job and i,ll go round and give him a slap

I’ve worked for many firms, including ESL on agency and don’t find it particularly easy, maybe I’m spoilt having so much time as a box jockey?
resonable amount of overtime… at a place i worked at and an enforced change of contract was bought in, in incorporated a similar thing, the advice at the time was that resonable is what is being currently done, ie at the time we were on old contract and were averaging 8 hours a week overtime over a reference period of 17 weeks(dunno why 17) so that was what was incorporated in the new contracts for those that signed em anyway… but bearing in mind this was for full time staff and part time were pro rata…

I had to have a chat with one of Woolies managers a few years ago when my ex worked for them. Next time I went to the shop the security guard, who I knew, could hardly bear to tell me I was barred!
