Possibly the narrow lanes south of the Bedford exit, the windiness of it (especially from Toddington to Luton airport) plus the ‘smart’ motorway which has people using the hard shoulder as a lane without much visibility in places. I narrowly avoided hitting a broken-down car in the hard shoulder south of Toddington last year.

I hate the M1, always have done. It’s about the only downside of my switch to artics, always seem to heading to Purfleet, Dartford or Enfield when I head south. When I did Central London on rigids it was M40 every time. In 4 years I only ever had one hold up. Other than that it was limiter all the way. Many days I could make it down to Northolt without even having to change lanes once.
