Can anyone tell me please ?

man-tga:
here you go…
Thank you - I found this via the link…
A blue chip stock is the stock of a well-established company having stable earnings and no extensive liabilities. Blue chip stocks pay regular dividends, even when business is faring worse than usual. The term is derived from casinos, where blue chips represent the greatest value among the many colors of chips.
There isn’t an exact definition, “Blue Chip” is just a generic term to describe a company which most people have heard of.
Most people have heard of Stobarts, doesn’t make 'em a Blue Chip, even though many of their customers are.
Slightly OT here, but i seem to remember my parents collecting some sort of chip stamps, that was like a points reward club, 500 stamps = a pen or something stupid. Think that was Green chip, or maybe blue chip. Was over 20 years ago im speaking lol. Anyone else remember them ?
isn’t it if the company is in the FTSE100?
I thought it was a company that collected the bits left after you tipped GKN Plts.
There is no accurate defenition. The term is used loosly to mean stable, high value shares like Northern Rock or RBS )

I think You may be confusing them with “Green Shield stamps” when I was a kid my Father collected them from the fuel stations and after so many books were filled you could redeem them for gifts. Bit like a nectar card today, Nectar cards are a lot better as the stamps were awful to lick, So I always got my Younger brother to do this job as You do !!

Green Shield Stamps morphed into Argos sometime in the early 70s
In the 60s I worked for a firm that made us hand in the stamps we got buying fuel for the trucks

Each morning we were given our jobs; the boss worked out how much fuel we needed and gave us a chit for the garage where their account was for that much (maybe 6 gallons or 10 gallons whatever). We went to the garage, put the fuel in and collected the stamps, so the boss knew exactly how many we should be handing in.
If we got diverted to another job and needed more fuel then we had to pay cash. I put 1 (one) gallon in one day and was told off because ½ a gallon would have been enough.
Anyone upset the boss they just got fired - no “Employment Protection” in the good old days.
