It’s been so long that I haven’t a clue what happened to this super market and its RDCs. Did they get bought out?
Morrisons now aren’t they?
Most of them became Morrison’s supermarkets. Morrison had to sell some of them to comply with Monopolies & Mergers legislation; most of these became Waitroses.
Have u been on the moon??
As mentioned by Rhythm Thief, they were bought out by Morrisons in 2004 who converted most of the Safeway stores to Morrisons although some were sold off to the likes of Waitrose, Asda etc. Dont know what became of the RDC’s though.

The Safeway RDC up at Tamworth became a Morrison’s RDC, before it shut in about 2007.
The old Safeway RDCs at Bellshill which was run by Christian Salvesen (now Nobby D’s) was just rebranded Morrison’s and is still going strong.
Safeway Bathgate was the same. Run by wincanton and still is under the Morrison’s name. Although im sure this site has been earmarked for the chop very soon.
Aylesford shut down then became waitrose, welwyn became somerfield then shut. Think Bristol, Warrington and Droitwich shut. Willand, Bellshill, Stockton and Northampton re branded as Morrisons dc’s. Tamworth is now Sainsbury’s and Coventry is a halfords dc
Warrington is now Iceland, still a ■■■■■■■■ though

In effect, yes.
I know Bristol is shut. There is/was a Morrison waste centre there, but not sure if that is in use either.
Sometimes see Samworth trucks in the RDC, but that’s it.
I used to like Safeway, even to the point of shopping there!
Why have they closed Bristol I know it’s a ■■■■ hole but closing it seems an over reaction.
Ah I see you mean the RDC. My bad
Anyone remember Fine Fair? Whatever happened to them!?
Didn’t that get swallowed up by Gateway?
What about keymarket and wavyline
Key market became gateway which became somerfields if memory serves. I was very ping when somerfields started
I was a store manager for Safeway, when we got taken over (merger as they called it) I took a two year secondment as a training manager, converting our stores to their format. This was under the premise that I’d be moving on to bigger things after the conversions were done.
What a lying bunch of gits (toned my language down there)
When I enquired about my new role after living out of a suitcase for 2 years, I was informed that the conversions had cost too much, there was no money in the pot, and loads of managers had frigged off. So I was going back to my old job.
After 20 years in retail, I put my notice in after 8 weeks of working for those idiots.
The ideology of “work to live” does not exist in that company. 80-90 hours a week is the norm, all for basic salary.
And it’s no wonder the expenses went over, judging by the area manager I was working with.
“Drinks are on me ladies”
“I book a few rooms in different hotels, you never know where you might get offered a shag”
He neglected to check me out, I knew his ex wife, current wife, daughter, regional director, and 3 of the women he was shagging.
Poor Brian
Ah Gateway, yep that’s it lol. We used to have a Londis in my village with its own deli counter and everything. Brilliant it was, then they turned it into a One Stop type place and it was ■■■■.
I used to work at the Warrington depot (and later when Iceland moved in).
Used to be a real cushy job with plenty of bonuses/benefits. I used to be on a 40 hour (4 day week) contract until they asked me if I’d like to drop down to a 30 hour (3 day week) contract. Of course I jumped at the chance. Including shift pay and freezer pay I was on just over £10 an hour. Times were good Morrisons came in and sold it all off and made everyone redundant. Some old timers got genuinely massive redundancy packages. Must of cost Morrisons a fortune
When Iceland moved from Deeside I was working 5 days a week for slightly less money

that was Kwiksave. bought out by gateway which then became Somerfields

I thought somerfileds bought kwik save? And I’m sure gateway was long gone before the kwik save/somerfields merge?
