What does this mean?

We work any five from seven shifts, day or night starts with variable start and finish times.

Does it mean there is no set shift pattern, it can be any day or night shift and weekly rest can fall on any two days in a week?

Cheers.

BTW what’s DPD like to work for, night trunking Class 1, what’s the pay? They don’t mention on their website.

Sounds horrific!
They obviously don’t want to attract quality drivers.

My contract says something like that, doesn’t mean I’m arsed about all over the place, shifts-wise.

They’re not going to guarantee you Monday-Friday, 9-5. Talk to them about what level of flexibility is the norm, and if they won’t, run a mile.

Do you know what is the basic wage packet for nights?

I don’t work for DPD, I’m just saying that a biggish employer has better things to do than custom write a contract for each and every driver on every shift pattern.

Our nights drivers are on about £12.50 an hour I think.

You’re right. I am LTD at the moment doing night trunks, if I was to switch to PAYE permanent employment I would need to gross around £35k. How likely to get that on night trunks full-time?

I’m not sure you’d get enough hours in. I only earn that by tramping, maxing my hours out and including night out money

Depends where you are…

In general, you won’t. I can recall doing some work s/e on night trunking for a ‘large parcel company’. I was earning about twice the money the full time lads were getting. But of course, when it’s quiet they get the work (usually), and s/e get nowt. Which suits me fine, but clearly isn’t right for everyone.

Oh, that shift pattern has the potential to be shocking. Or, as has been said, it could just be a way for the company to cover all shifts for all drivers as it were. Best advice is…ask them.
(and get the answer in writing)
