what do you make of this?

shes calling for us to have cycle awareness training yet they are only encouraging cyclists to get training, shouldnt it be cyclists should be forced to get training to deal with big vehicles.

roadtransport.com/blogs/big- … .html#more

Cyclists should be forced to have proper training and have it enforced (enforced - that’s a joke to start with), most of them are muppets who believe that the rules of the road do not apply to them, they should also carry compulsory insurance, a lot of them wear earphones and listen to music that drowns out traffic noise - how on earth can you ride through heavy traffic safely with some twangy voiced non talent screeching at you I do not know - AC DC, Queen or other rock legends would be fine though

What a load of BS.   And just for the record I hate the vast majority of cyclists (despite being one myself, albeit not on roads) because they have the road awareness of a buffoon.

98% of cyclists don’t feel safe on the road all of the time

:unamused: So why the [zb] are they on the roads at all then? By their own admission they don’t feel safe and therefore can’t deal with the traffic properly without [zb] themselves that they’re gonna be flattened. Simple solution, get the [zb] bus or walk. :unamused: Stupid [zb]s.

The 2 Way Street survey has explored, for the first time ever, the relationship between cyclists and lorry drivers and most importantly we now have proof that both parties want more or less the same things so they can share happily the same roads.

More BS. Lorry drivers want to share the roads with cyclists? Do me a favour. :unamused: All lorry drivers want is for cyclists to GTFO of their way.

The CTC would like to see: cycle awareness training for all HGV drivers and access to national standards cycle training…

It’s not the truckers at fault 99% of the time, it’s the stupid cyclists playing death squeezing down the side trying to make up a few yards at junctions only to risk getting flattened for a second time. :unamused:

…an improvement in the design of HGVs to eliminate blind spots…

WTF?! :open_mouth: How many more [zb] mirrors do they want us to have? You can hardly see out of the [zb] windows as it with the 7 mirrors already :unamused: .

…the adoption of side guards and side indicator repeaters on all HGVs…

Er no. Stop squeezing down the sides. Problem solved. No cost.

…the restriction of lorries on narrow streets and urban areas

Just plain ignorance. Like we WANT to be travelling down narrow streets and urban areas? Er hello? Slight little problem called “deliveries” gets in the way of your pie-in-the-sky ideas.

Stupid thick [zb] [zb]s, the lot of them. If I were PM I’d ban cyclists from all public roads. They’re just a pain in the arse, ALL THE TIME. How many times have been plodding along and met a cyclist at one of those islands so you have to come to a [zb] halt because you can’t get past them til you’re clear of the island? Or what about when you get stuck behind one on a narrow road and there’s too much traffic coming the other way to get past them; after being stuck behind for a lightyear while they leisurely free wheel along, you do eventually get past them but 300 yards up the road the lights are at red. What do they do? Come down the inside of you to the front of the queue then set off when the lights change and leisurely carry on, causing you to have to do it all over again. :unamused: YORK is an excellent place for this btw.

[zb] em.

And another thing, they should be forced to pay road tax, have an MoT and have minimum 3rd party insurance if they’re gonna use the roads. Why should they get it free gratis and hold up every [zb] while the rest of us that pay to move around our daily business at more than jogging pace have to sit behind them at their leisure while they cause gridlock?

Edit: typos.

Exactly. WELL SAID. Ban the [zb] lot of them.

I agree with Rob.

A simple start would be to ban all cyclists (and motorbikes!) from passing down the side of other vehicles where there’s a junction within 200 yards, or something like that.
I had a motorbike drive down the outside of me yesterday, he then pulled infront and stopped (over the white line) then stalled his motorbike 3 times when the lights went green. By the time he managed to get going the lights had gone back to red!

They should keep their place in traffic! all this passing on the left or right only serves to ■■■■ everyone else off

However I’d like to add that I’m more than happy to have Gail Porter stay in a cab with me for a week to see the issues herself, its only a single but I’m sure we could manage :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :open_mouth:

Gail Porter used to be fit as [zb] when she was in her early 20s but look at her now. She’s got a face like an old house wife. :exclamation:

Agree with rob on this like.what gets up my back is the [zbs] ride in 3s or 4s and think they own the [zb] road. :imp: :imp:

What a rant  that’s just made my lunch break a hell of a lot more entertaining. Totally agree btw.

Oh dear, We have been here before. The fact is that cyclists dont need insurance, training, MOT or any thing else.Pedestrians ,riders whether of bike or horse use the roads by RIGHT. The drivers of motorised vehicles use the roads by licence.I cant see this changing any time soon.

Cycles should be mot`d, taxed + insured, they are afterall road users. :imp:

So sick of hearing the same ■■■■ over and over again.

Yes, there’s bad cyclists that get us all a bad name.

There’s bad truck drivers that get us all a bad name

There’s bad motorcyclists that get us all a bad name

There’s bad car drivers that get us all a bad name.

Notice a patern yet?

Oh, yes, I’m all of the above. Pushbike on back of truck to get around when I’m stranded, also cycle for fitness. Motorbike for pleasure. Car to get me and all my gear to and from work and take family / dogs out. Truck to pay the bills.

Stop whining you bunch of old tarts

The figures that really suprised me were
· 98% of cyclists don’t feel safe on the road all of the time
BOLLOX!! 100% of cyclists surely, nobody can possibly feel safe on the road all the time.

· 53% of HGV drivers felt there should be more cycle lanes
BOLLOX!! No truck driver wants to lose yet more road to bloody cycle lanes (that they’re now putting cameras on), the roads are small and tight enough as it is, and if there’s a lane there, it’s like a right for the muppet cyclists to do stupid things - up inside of a left turning artic for example.

· 73% of HGV drivers worried most about sharing the road with a cyclist more than any other road user
Nope, pretty sure that’s that ■■■■■■■ PC HGV ■■■■■ he’s bound to do you for something, or the VOStApo

Perhaps if the cyclists used the “cycle route” as intended and purpose built and not the road when there is an option,
then hopefully this % could be decreased.

with all the H+S outcry, whatever happened to " cycling proficiency " training  :open_mouth:

Cyclists dont need to use cycle paths, most are crap anyway.
As for when a cyclist goes down the left, just run the [zb]ers over, their own fault IMO and when they realise not to [zb] about around trucks there will be less accidents. Until then, flatten them or come close and they should hopefully get the message.
I think another problem with some cyclists is you can get idiots riding on the road with no clue, and they are too thick to pass a driving test or drive a car, but ride on the road.
One of the most worrying things was when someone i cycled with told me he isnt allowed to drive a car on his own because of diabetes, he had a full licence taken to a provisional, so know he goes everywhere on a bike. Ok you might think, but this guy can easily get on a low and he goes crazy, without knowing whats happening and unless you make him get off he will ride until he falls off because his blood sugar gets so low that he gets confused and forgets how to ride a bike, and also how to get home. But he thinks its safe to ride a bike :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
Personaly, i dont often have problems with trucks and if you are going along the A612 between Nottingham and Lowdham Island, and the A6097 between Lowdham island and Gunthorpe at the right times of the day you will see me, and shouldnt have a problem with me, ill even pull over to let you past if i know you cant get past because of lack of room.
Just some cyclists give us a bad name, nevermind, ill have my own car soon
And as for the link, she is talking rubbish, there is only so much a lorry driver can do, if the idiots on bikes didnt put themself there in the first place(training for them would help this) then there would be no problem.

we ll ive done a weekend driving through scenic country A roads

which bit of youre diceing with death do these 2 wheeled maniacs not get.

As most of the car driving muppets are out n about ,
playing overtake :smiling_imp:

seen more sense in blairs excuse for iraq

got to the stage after blair atholl ,
shouted out the cab to muppets heading south .

Why do you want to die. they were 3 abreast on the A9 ?

that seems about right for cyclists on the a9, even though the cycle path is good enough. but they were probably grape smugglers you were shouting at

i couldn’t read the article. all i could think was " does she swallow?"

These campaigns are approaching this problem from the wrong end. I’m not anti-cyclist except for the anti-social buggers who don’t give a flying ■■■■ for anyone else. I’d love to see more people get out of their cars and onto two wheels for several reasons but there needs to be a reality check from these people. The only person who will get physically hurt in any encounter between trucks and bikes is the person on the bike. Having been a truck driver for 25 years and in the past a biker I now know that the immediate vicinity of any truck is an area of increased risk and should be treated as such by other road users. A moments inattention by a truck driver or having your eyes elsewhere combined with a cyclist/biker/any other encroaching into that danger area means trouble. Cyclists HAVE to realise this and help truck drivers out by not putting themselves in dangerous spots. I understand that many cyclists won’t actually realise the potential danger THEY are creating for THEMSELVES which brings me to the point. Every other road user is REQUIRED to undertake training. Isn’t it time CYCLISTS were? Instead of placing an increasing burden on drivers who aren’t short of things to do and look out for? Unlike cyclists with 360 degree vision.

I won’t hold my breath… :unamused:

Cyclists should be like me and ride on the pavement out of harms way,if this is not possible give trucks a wide birth , like you know they have not noticed you. When I passed my test other road user awareness was part of it ,this included bikes.

fuse:
Cyclists should be like me and ride on the pavement out of harms way, .

While it may seem sensible it is apparently illegal

Cycling on the footway (pavement) is an offence under Section 72 of the Highways Act 1835
as amended by Section 85 (1) of the Local Government Act 1888.

Prehaps cyclists should read this to refresh their memory on The Highway Code section
that applies to them Rules for Cyclists
