What do you make of this then? Powerful Volvo

del949:
I think that you are wrong there Luke.
I’m sure that if the orders where there they would produce them.
I remember years ago seeing Volvo F16 chassis/engine with the small cabs (F6 type) on them.

Perhaps for the Swiss market, CH230, 2.3m width limit at the time and a high bhp/tonne requirement.

I dont know about now but in the mid 90s McGovern a London bulk rubbish haulier bought a load of scania 143s which were day cabs. They were obviously weight concious due to there work and had no need for a sleeper cab.
Even now a number of firms on that work buy the v8 scanias but with the standard R cab.
Also foden which was strong in this market offered high power with day cabd etc.
Although i cand see any of the big logistics cos looking for volvo fm16s or p620 scanias

you are probably correct re the Swiss market explanation, the point I was making was that manufacturers will produce what the market requires, regardless of ‘flagship’ advertisement issues.

Remove that tat and stencil nett £ per hour on the side, you’d know who to work for then, but more importantly who not.

I don’t get all this HP show off bollox, we’d have given our eye teeth for a 500+hp jobbie back in pre limiter days, doesn’t make a scrap of difference now you can only go as fast as the bloke in front up to about 56mph…its money that counts not willy waving.

unless your on a lomas wagon!

One of the guys in O’Reilly’s swapped his “460” round to read “940”, still call him a ■■■ for it.

There is truth in the bigger power engines being able to hold speed easier, but there’s a limit where it becomes ott. Unless your running silly heavy, these days a 500 is going to be more than up for any job.

I must be lying then…

err no. Regular truck is a 380 and doesn’t like doing more than 50 loaded with poor fuel returns.

New Merc 2545 or Scania 620 coped better fully loaded with with hills and stuff.

But i’ll drive whatever the boss gives me lol

I also drive a Volvo 840, but I’ve had to change the badge on the side to read 480 so that other drivers don’t get jealous…

The reason for big fleet companies not buying 730 or 750s are because it’s no problem get them to use a lotf of fuel. There is only so much fuel you can get forced through a 400 even with the worst driver in history. Also not driving a 600+ truck wrong there is no problem burning up the tyres in a couple of weeks. Drive tuned 620 myself and it can lay down black marks in the asphalt just by using the throttle if I want. 750hp and over 3600nm they say it is in the engine I don’t know other than the question it raise how to want to drive anything else afterwards?
