We only do periodic DCPC at moment. It is very slow, as most companies we have spoken to have said 100% of their drivers have completed and no one else seems to want to do it.

Depends where in the North East you are & what companies you have approached
We have approached loads of companies, mostly in T&W and Durham, but they have all completed. I know for a fact some haven’t but what can you do.

Dont know many that have fully completed tbh in this area know of at last 1 company where none of the drivers have done any of it
Maybe everyone is holding out for a govt u-turn on DCPC and to be honest I would not be surprised if David Cameron pulled one

Make them an offer they can’t refuse, all companies are trying to save money at the moment

Out of interest what did you actually learn on your cpc?
I spent one afternoon of it learning what the driving licence categories are for mopeds, invalid carriages and lawn mowers. It really opened my eyes and I’m now amazed that I thought I could ever safely drive a truck for 26 years without knowing this vital information.
I’ve forgotten it now, mind. In fact I had forgotten it even before the next desperately awaited ■■■ break.

this for me as well. i live in durham as well if anyone knows please let me know
Price is definitely not the issue as we cannot go much cheaper. I just think there is a general apathy and lack of money floating around to do it. It is a shame more businesses will not pay for the courses for their drivers. They should. After all where would they be without their drivers.
Wether or not the included lunch is any good!
ADR ooop north: 3 excellent home cooked meals. Sausage and mash, chicken korma and spag bol.
EPIC in croft quarry: Decent buffet.
Shopping around for my last days cpc…

Hauliers haven’t got any margin available to hand over to parasites in the educonomy.
Drivers have faced severe downward pressure on their wages for five years now,and haven’t got any spare wages available to hand over to parasites in the educonomy.
Just go do one, eh? Get a proper job, and take ROG with you. The days have gone now when we could afford to pay useless parasites out of general taxation.
Move to france. DCPC is funded by employers and they aint got no choice - it’s the rules. Unemployed also get DCPC for free. Been doing DCPC over there since 1995 apparently.
Move to Poland - the DCPC system is apprently pretty corrupt and 25 euro buys a certificate and everyone knows it.
I was at a DCPC seminar last week. Mrs Bell went over what action will be taken against both drivers and employers for non compliance and i wouldn’t want to be an employer employing drivers with no DQC. Drivers will just get a ticking off and possible £30 fixed penalty along with suspension of licence until DCPC taken. Employers will get a nice invite to a PI and no end of ■■■■ after that. Once this happens to a few operators the rest will change their mind
Some DCPC courses are relevant. I am working with a company with 120 drivers so that compulsory site training they have to have to operate on specific contracts is approved for DCPC. This benefits the employer and employee. No training - no work anyway, so lets make it DCPC. This company has already assessed various training companies before selecting one to work with. they pay well, have decent vehicles and treat the drivers well. they consider the DCPC money well spent. That is what the industry needs.
I am also now offering HIAB as DCPC. They gotta do the HIAB anyway, so lets make it count as DCPC.
yeah I get what some are saying on here - the courses are ■■■■■ and don’t teach anything you can’t go find yourself on the internet - but not all courses are like that. HOWEVER - the amount of drivers I have met that are as switched on and wise as you lot is a very small percentage Just as the amount I have met that have ever heard of trucknet is also very small. it’s a big old world out there and with around 750,000 - 850,000 drivers in the UK a lot do need this training.
I just hope more employers come round to realising that this can be beneficial. it is an investment in their drivers in the same way they invest in vehicles and equipment and they should be arranging decent training and paying for it.
I already have my DQC but come 2014 I will need to start attending courses again. I will be looking for quality training at a reasonable price and in the right place. So in answer to the OP. Location, quality then price. I would gladly pay more for better. How will I know it’s better? Unless a word of mouth recommendation I won’t … and that’s something else JAUPT and DSA need to sort, some sort of rating system for training providers.
Hi Shep.
I couldn’t make it to the CMLIVE last week, but i curious if BB said anything about how she was getting her point across to the hauliers. I know they were planning leafleting them. Has this started yet?

Hmm I think I know you from another forum (and it’s not the stocking wearing prostitute murdering one either, before you all start)
I’ve done nowt yet, am only driving maybe 20 to 30 days a year and am wondering whether I should bother.

Short answer is no they haven’t started contacting operators yet … but it is something they intend to do. Apparently the DSA are contemplating some form of media advertising as well.
meanwhile I know for fact BB (and other TCs) are getting the point across during PIs and pushing those operators already in trouble to get it sorted for their drivers. BB also mentioned that the Scottish TC (forgot her name) has been given overall responsibility for DCPC and trainers with issues/questions should contact her.
BB did take onboard a suggestion from someone that the TC could contact all restricted licence holders as these are likely to have little knowledge of the DCPC and think it doesn’t mean them as they aren’t hauliers. Being honest my ‘target market’ is the restricted licence holders as they often have nobody in the business with any real knowledge and drivers are often multi-purpose employees that work in the factory/warehouse and then drive ‘the wagon’. often they don’t class themselves as drivers … they just drive sometimes.

I look for the exit.
The idea isn’t so bad, and I was fortunate to have had a good trainer. But in it’s current, badly thought-out (if any thought was involved at all) format it’s just a Drivers Cash Parting Con.
