I’m currently a bus driver but have the chance of a hgv job but need to have catergory C on my lisence, what do I need to get this, how long will it take, difficulty of passing and cost please if anyone can help?
Theory test medical ,cost don’t know
As for difficulty , easier as HGV is narrower than a bus and wheels are further forward

According to the Wiki, link here a Alexander Dennis Enviro3000 (sounds like a yanky tree hugger car) is 2.545m wide.
My little Scannia can fit 3 euro plates on chinese way, (800 * 3) 2400mm or 2 euros normal way (1200 * 2 ) 2400mm
Last time I checked 2400 was less then 2545
But the question we need answering is, is the width on the wiki, Mirror to mirror?
As an ex bus driver I can tell you that a bus most certainly is no wider than a wagon. If anything narrower.
And to the OP, you need medical, theory and hazard perception, practical and cpc. All in all between 1000-1500 I reckon. In terms of difficulty, it’s pretty much identical to acquiring a bus license so you shouldn’t have any major issues qualifying mate. You could probably have the lot done in a month or two, depending on the efficiency of the dvla at the moment
Chunkzilla thank you for the answer I was looking for, I take it the medical and cpc I have for the buses won’t be valid for hgv?

No problem mate!
Nope you need a fresh medical and you have to do the initial cpc, but once you have both entitlements your periodic training will count for both.
If you have anymore queries don’t hesitate to ask mate
