What do i do??

In November I am 65 and will be getting a medical form from the DVLA, also my car licence is up for renewal, I do not intend to ever drive anything bigger than my car, so do i just ignore the Forms, or write a letter or what? does anybody know?..

Road side medical for £50, then if you fancy the odd day until the dcpc runs out you can.

Robroys your man to ask…

When you get your forms there is an option to renew your car licence but not your truck/coach part.
I will add a picture later.
Cheers

I don’t believe that Robroy wants his licence back, I reckon that he’s having waaay too much fun mincing around his house in a pinny wielding a feather duster!

Nice mental picture you have there, thanks for sharing.

I pictured Rob sat in his Shackleton chair, wearing his smoking jacket over his Sunderland shirt whilst gently swirling his brandy.

Think you will find there will be two lots of forms car and lgv.
When retired I only filled the car one and sent my licence in as requested never bothered about the LGV bit my licence came back minus LGV entitlement.
That was 7 years ago Fishing Holidays Gardening Rugby now and loving it

I thought driving licences expired on your 70th birthday and it’s a simple tick box question about your eyesight to get it back.

Yep - mine expired on 70 last year - just a tick box to get a new one
Plus the option to renew entitlement with the standard HGV medical (you can do the medical later & then ask for entitlement to be renewed)
After 70 you have to have the medical annually to renew entitlement

woah, stop the bus. ^^^

Have i read that right that if you renew your HGV at 65 you will get another full 5 years HGV licence and annual renewals from age 70?
I was always under the impression the HGV licence had to be renewed annually from age 65.

If you get the full 5 years it would make sense to get the thing renewed for the sake of of the cost of a cheap medical (even better if your employer stumps up as most proper ones do), you might not need to get behind a lorry wheel again but you never know what life has waiting around the corner, you might need to move house for one reason or another (such as the poor chap who recently dispatched a useful :unamused: member of society has had to) or one of your loved ones might need some urgent help, it would only take a few days to renew the DCPC ■■■■■■■■ and you could be back earning some decent dosh.

I’m 65 and class 1 renewed for 1 year, licence issued Jan this year.

^^ bugger, that’s what i thought it was, thanks for posting.

back to the drawing board

Unless there’s a medical reason why someone has to renew a car licence every so many years car licences do expire at 70.

Check the dates on your licence, if your car entitlement (cat B) runs out in 5 years time you don’t need to do anything, although your HGV entitlement will be expired it can stay on your licence until you need to renew your car licence.

If you do have to renew your car licence just ignore the medical form, you can bin it there’s no need to inform the DVLA that you don’t intend to drive lorries again.

My car licence does expire in November and needs renewing…Though the photocard needs to be renewed every 10 years, in general, driving licences are valid until you’re 70, after which it needs renewing every three years. If you only need to update your address or name, or you’re over 70 and you’re just renewing it, this is free…So i gather from your posts just ignore Medical forms, send in licence and they will remove entitlement, thank you for that.
