What can you use ADR class 7 for?

I’m trying to find out as much as I possibly can about the amount of different work out there. What can you use this class for? Radio active must mean more money right? With all these nuclear plants there must be some weird and wonderful jobs out there? What other specialist jobs are there? Apart from petrol tanker and car transporter.

Ionizing radiation is mutagenic. If you are a young bloke yet to get married and have kids, then I would seriously advise against having anything to do with something that can warp each and any of your kids yet to be born.

For someone middle-aged with kids already having left the nest however, the dangers are not nearly as great.

Payment for transporting Radioactives along with the dangers they represent, should be a supply and demand issue like everything else. This means NO firm like Nobbies palming their drivers off with same flat policy wages that do not recognise the fact that relatively few drivers hold a level 7 packages on their ADR - Less so, than hold Explosives I believe.

I consider myself old enough to fit this criteria, but would want Train driver type wages to transport them around for a flat 40 hour week 4x10 hour shifts. About £1200pw seems about right to me. This currently seems unlikely to happen, so there’s little chance that Winnie is going to lose his weanie any time soon thanks very much. :sunglasses:

I think they will want decades of experience in driving ADR and high value goods and absolutely no criminal history.
New or spent material is a highly sought after commodity with terrorists, not to mention having an accident with radioactive cargo on board is going to cause mayhem, it’s probably why stobarts don’t do it… :stuck_out_tongue:

Stobarts don’t do it because they won’t pay folk like me £1200pw TO do it. :stuck_out_tongue:
I’m the right age, have the right background in Science & Chemistry etc, and have a strong H&S ethic. If that prices me out of the market, then so be it. “6 points OK” just won’t wash as a way of drumming up interest from the trucking community with something like this I reckons.

I can’t see the connection with “no ex-cons” and “must have a history of high value loads”.
That would suggest Mr Clean who’s worked for some firm like P&H is up for it then?

Sorry bud, an establishment that goes out of it’s way to be a “halfway house employer” and has a electric fence around the place, making it look like Stalagluft 17 rather than a paragon of transport virtue… Hmm… :open_mouth: It’s as if they are reacting to the type of bod they want to employ, rather than just cough up the money to get the high-integrity staff in the first place.

I had Class 7.
They dont pay more but expect you doing all possible Work you cant be sure its safe.
On the other Hand Van Drivers could do the same without ADR,but got paid a Bonus.
So i scrapped ADR.
Im anywhy too old for such dangerous Work, especially if no Bonus comes with it.
Just check out Price for all the ADR Courses and Time you have to do.

But what company’s do this sort of driving? Do they even advertise? Has anyone had experience in actually transporting radioactive loads? Is the money better? I’m guessing health and safety put there finger in every pie so it can’t be that bad?

I thought most nuclear stuff went on trains, less risk on the rails

I have no idea, I thought that if there was a class 7 ADR module then someone has to be using it for something lol?

We move various equipment between Aberdeen & Gt. Yarmouth, for the offshore oil & gas industry, that’s radioactive.

Seen quite a few transit vans marked up as radioactive

Probably find some deliveries to Hospitals is of a radioactive material and some waste disposal from hospitals is of radioactive content don’t think the wages will be any good.
