What are we supposed to do about loads?

A very good and true point Sidevalve. To completely mind ■■■■ Vostapo I’d barrel hitch 'em and then loosely put a strap over them! The strap would perform no function except to satisfy their checklist!

Just did a job on Thursday for a well known Yorkshire firm. Given unit and trailer, already loaded for you  so I get to the clients address and pulls back the curtains to reveal 26 pallets with huge white sacks of plastic beads which weigh a ton each. Not only were there no straps on them, there was one slide strap which was freyed hanging from the centre slide rail. I called up to find out where my next job was and was told to the pickup. I raised the issue with straps and they went for the boss who came back and tried to educate me that straps are not needed for “these loads” and my next job was just picking up pallets of paper so “you will be alright there”. I said well it has to be strapped down. Suddenly 10 minutes later that job is cancelled and I am told that is it for the day I am not needed any longer. watching the drivers coming in and picking up trucks and trailer none of them checked underneath the curtain. So you do as your told or we won’t use you is the dilemma we are faced with. :unamused:

Just as well that you were doing the job on agency then. It would have put you in an awkward spot if you were an employed driver… unless you just happened to be in a union; but then according to some in the thread running on the subject there is no point in so being.

Sounds very similar to a load I did a few weeks ago. No way i’d have moved them without straps & thats with an XL trailer.

Sorry Alder this is classic agency crap. Pick up trailer and no inspection of load prior to departure. First knowledge of an issue is when curtains are pulled back at the drop.

Might as well name and shame as they wont be having you back ever.

Trust me im being kind here but part of me wants to scream your a ■■■■■■ idiot…

Thank god I load my own truck.

■■■■ em Alder,

We’re not on air traffic control and no one can guarantee you won’t be involved in a non fault accident…so when that happens and old bill investigate potentially or god forbid its a fatal due to a load shed onto a public highway, is said company gonna have your back when it goes legal…

Are they ■■■■, you’ll be on your own.

Do like I did on the potatoes boxes once. Ask for the dispensation note to have no load restraint to be personally signed by the TM…you’ll be suprised they’re suddenly ain’t so up for it this idea then!!!

You can get straps on as loads going on…no delay argument then just keep an eye on your forkie and what they’re doing though.

Everyone would have a field day if car transporters, steel stockholders, general flats or low loaders didn’t bother securing their loads and relied on just gravity instead.

Why should it be any different to curtainsiders all of a sudden, why are they so special.

And last time I noticed load restraints aren’t an optional extra to the trailer’s specification.

Funny how companies are happy to spend out on the chrome and spotlights but god forbid the expense of 1 strap.

Zbing name em they’re an embarrassment to haulage in general.

I bet the local Traffic Commissioner would like to ask them how come they’re above the law and yet others in the same business have to incur the costs to do it properly…how is that fair and just.

■■■■ it why bother posting on this forum

On your side bud, I’m critiquing the companies your being sent to, who are making a simple job overly complicated and illegal when it shouldn’t be that hard. Not in this day and age!

As for said company sending home early they’re cowards, but in my eyes if I was you, I’d say I was lucky to get away from them, its a matter of time before a zb up affects them…not an if.

Hope you get on a decent company on the agency soon bud!

PS Welcome to TNet you’ll enjoy it here    :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Hey alder. For once I agree with you.

Why do you bother posting on this forum? I agree with Dipper Dave. You are a [zb]ing idiot.
