To be fair the default is always reverse into wherever you’re not sure that you can turn around.
Look on the bright side here it would have been a double deck artic and he wouldn’t have stopped for the low roof.
If he’d reversed in, he would have missed seeing that height limit sign hanging from the roof at the entrance (@ 1:26 in the vid). Ironically, the hapless t wat ignored it driving in forwards. I’ll bet the veh height was stated in foot-high letters above his windscreen too.
Maybe he had problems converting to metric.

It’s in the description, company procedure is to get out and wait to be towed to prevent any further damage regardless of accident type
