What agency's are worth contacting

Hi all

Have now got my class 2 and am looking for part time work on weekends as in full time employment. Can anyone recommend any agency’s? Called driver hire today and was like talking to a brick wall (sounded like a newbie on the phone) and trying to register on their website is also poor (chat box pops up constantly and difficult to scroll) Any suggestions? I am Sussex based

Just bear in mind with the agencies is to accept every job they offer you, as a newcomer they pass on the rubbish jobs that the long timer’s on their books regularly refuse, if you get to be sent to a regular client I have known many drivers that got offered full time positions as they saw how they did when on the agency.

Thanks buddy. Will not be fussy, just want to build experience

It’s best to accept the most dirtiest and rubbish lorry of the fleet, it will be the most abused lorry that nobody respects as it’s not an allocated vehicle, we used to call them the pig or the coffin as it would be the sleeper cab with the smallest bunk.

as long as its roadworthy, will be happy. Can you recommend any agencies

I can’t recommend any agencies, I hope it all works out for you.

Still find a lot of agency drivers who treat the cabs like pig styes. Suppose its treat is as you find it.
I’m no clean freak and our units are smoked in but the cabs are spotless compared to some I’ve seen  Just take your rubbish with you, clean up any spills and a quick brush out, it’s not hard.

Trampers cabs are obviously different. Never dream of smoking in one who’s usual driver doesn’t smoke.
Last firm I was at I was given one for shift. Took the keys back and asked for something a little more downmarket

Apologies slightly off topic

When on the agency, some of the full time drivers would empty the contents of the cab including the side lockers.

On several occasions I would see a handwritten note by the regular driver with a list of what not to do in his allocated motor.

Some of the regular guys would get quite upset if someone had fiddled with the radio settings.

Then there’s the conundrum whether to leave all the cab bedding in the cab if you are going on holiday, the thought of someone sleeping in my duvet made of Egyptian cotton or on my Harrods luxury pillows.

That shipped has already sailed and disappeared off over the horizon :winking_face_with_tongue:
