Stupid and pointless!
A complete wast of time and money, probably the idea of someone in charge of H&S at the university.
To be fair whilst pointless the money wasted on that is hardly going to much, so I don’t think they wasted much of your money. Maybe 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001p *

You can tell it’s the end of the financial year
I think its a good thing, you cant put a price on safety
A couple of workmen, a few pots of black and white paint, two Belisha beacons - it doesn’t sound like a lot.
Yet it emerged yesterday that the Highways Agency spends a staggering £114,000 on each new pedestrian crossing

Like it says in the article - possibly a rag stunt, if not the the university would have some serious explaining to do when it comes to asking students to cough up for tuition fees.

Geezus, we are clearly in the wrong business here, maybe we should form a company and offer the same service at half the price ■■
How could they genuinely refuse a substantially lower quote and justify it ■■

Yes; could understand that kind of money for a pelican crossing where there’s the lights etc to pay for, but a Belisha crossing?
I’m willing to bet though that if you stripped away the costings directly related to Elf and Safety you’d halve the figure. Biggest money-spinner for jobsworths in the public sector by far.
I watched a news item yesterday about a level crossing. They’ve had to put a bloke there to control it because of the number of bicycles using it.
They plan to build a pedestrian bridge and showed us a pic of a plain footbridge with a ramp at each side. This is apparently going to cost £1,500,000. - Bonkers.
They could leave it alone and let natural selection sort it out, but that would probably end up costing even more.

10 mins work for the army lads with a mobile bridge
You must remember this Bristol we’re talking about. Recently they moved a bus stop from the perfectly good place it was in to somewhere just a few metres down and across the road so now you have to block the whole junction while passengers board and exit.

Very safety conscious is Bristol.

It’s always easy to spend someone else’s money.
