Rob could you let us know who the insurance people blame, clearly the back marker is to blame would be nice to know.
Also at great risk of being labelled a racist which I certainly am not, as a biker I find the Asian community in general seem to struggle with the motor car.

So, you pull up, get ready to manouver, check nearside mirror, then check right again, see gap approaching…Now, do you a) check nearside mirror again, or b) keep looking right incase you’ve missed a motorbike or cycle coming down around the gap you’re about to go for…
You need to do both until you can satisfy both conditions. Pulling out without ensuring that it is safe to do so (regardless of where the danger may come from) is dangerous at best, and quite frankly its reckless. If you have to put other peoples lives in danger to “make a gap” then you are in far too much of a hurry, and no load regardless of how important your planner thinks it is warrants a reckless endangerment of someone elses life.
You really do believe the sun shines out of your arse dont you!

Thank you coffeeholic , Bye the way, I was sorry to hear about your wife, I hope both your lads passed their tests and are going to join our wonderful profession ? Me and my kids have been through a very different but just as traumatic event, I raised them alone so had to give up my night trunk at TNT which was very hard, job for life that one, I was earning 19k in 1994, going from that to benefits was tough but worth it.

Number 1 son (27) is going to do his motorbike test then that’ll do him he says, he obvioulsy has already done car and Cat C and he got the C+E on Saturday with 2 minors.
Number 2 son (20) passed his car test with zero minors then went onto do his C1, don’t ask I told him it was a waste of time, and passed with 2 minors then did his C and passed with 4. He is doing his C+E in February so fingers crossed.
Neither of them have any intention of joining this industry. They have their own business which is keeping them very busy.

Happy it worked out for you, sort of puts things in perspective doesn’t it.

this thread makes me ■■■■,you get drivers on other threads shouting for solidarity…aint gonna happen coz youve allways got a load of jumped up [zb] like the previous posters who are only to keen to ■■■■ up your back. if that had happened to switchlogic it would be....oh hard luck mate glad you are o.k. etc,if it had been a stobart driver he would be the devils spawn.what a bunch of ego inflated trumpet suckers. i bet my bottom dollar your firms insurance dont pay out,and who would blame them…you`ve taken the correct position(utilised available road space) and your scanning for a gap on a busy a1 when some thick [zb] decides to drive around you on the pavement ffs
OllieNotts:
I check my ns mirror every time I pull away, it appears to me the only moron on here is the OP and anyone who justifies not doing so. If you cant drive properly then you shouldnt be moaning about anyone else who cant drive properly. You are supposed to be the/a professional…
Says trucknets most incompetant, accident prone, failed lorrydriver. 800 posts of it.
The op’s done nothing wrong. Who would expect a car to undertake on the pavement.
I couldn’t get on to the link, but going on Rob Robs description, it’s gotta be this other pricks fault. Some of you blokes want rooting with the rough end of a pineapple, ffs, you should change jobs to instructors, then you could teach everyone else to be ■■■■■■■ perfect. There ain’t much escapes me in the mirrors, but they come at you from all directions and sooner or later… Hindsight and not being there is wonderful ain’t it.

*Something I may or may not have done on the A414 at the Colney Roundabout in the early part of last year but cannot confirm in case I incriminate myself.
It was me your honour! But I did manage to punt the Nissan Micra up the arse because he stopped at a green light . Yes I know it was my fault because I was looking at the moron coming up my inside. There would of been an accident whatever that day , I am gutted though the Chav in the fiat panda got away without a scratch!
BTW I only read this post because of the title, I thought he was describing me !
I was talking about my incident with the car that didn’t turn left to St Albans.
Oh yeah … Sorry mate , Jason reckoned it was the most consise ever accident form he has ever seen !

It was the ‘other prick’s’ fault but not useing the mirrors before moving away from standstill means that anything that is there (like a cyclist) will be missed and in that case the law probably won’t view it as ‘gotta be the cyclists fault’ for being there.
RobRob:
As I explained, I was inches from a strip of Tarmac bordering shrubbery…how the [zb] did I expect anyone to try and DRIVE up my near side■■?
And of course Pedestrians / Gardeners / Litter Pickers etc etc are not worth looking in your Mirror for when pulling away whether on a slip road or not ? after all that .09th of a second it takes to glance into the N/S Mirror could delay you long enough to miss an opening in the traffic.
Dunno if it was just me or not but I always had the habit of looking in the N/S Mirror regardless of whether it was a slip road or a Lay By or anything else come to that, but being honest, no I wouldn’t have expected a car up the side but then again I would of still checked, at least you’ve learned one thing out of it and that is to never assume there’s no idiots around you in cars.
