I had a phone call from a local recovery firm that I put my CV into when I did my C class test (I have my C+E now) about 9-30. Asking when I could pop down for an interview. I said in the next 30 mins, remember it is a sunday. When I was on the phone I told them I had not passed my C+E and was told “that is a help”. So off I go to the interview, not dressed up, hair in a mess and in a rush. Well after a 45 min interview I was asked when I could go out with one of their drived to see what I drive like.
So off to the other yard and met the driver. Mark (the driver) said we were taking the 12T one out. Christ does it not like changeing gear when cold!! So off we went out for about 15-18 miles of driving on single carrage roads. Still crunching gears , but only the first 4
. Anyway it went ok. Got back to the yeard, Mark asked me to put the lorry back to where it came from. Now remember I had not driven a rigid truck since passing my C test about 4 months ago. The parking space (if you can call it that) was about 2 foot wider that the truck. But you can not go stright in. You have to reverse off the road on full lock, the full lock the other way to get in. As it is a recovery firm there is cars everywhere. STRIGHT IN it went no shunts at all.
As I got out of the cab Mark said there was a call out come in, a local one, would I like to go out and see how to load a car on and how the slide/tilt bed works. YES were the words I said . So off we went. We picked the car up and took it to where it was going. When we got there Maek said would I like to unload it. Of coruse I said yes. Off it came. I was then offered the drive back, again I said yes.
So drove it back ok. On getting back to the yeard, I was asked to put this one back where it came from. I did again, but again it was not an easy job as it had go to the back of the yard. Job done.
Mark give the boss a call and said I drove fine, on that I was offered a job
So I start tomorrow at 8-30. The time I was offered the job was about 1-30. Starting off with simple recovery then moving onto heavey recovery.
So a very good day .
