Hi all, sorry if this is in the wrong forum but I wondered if anyone on here had imported a Western Star 5700xe to use in the Uk. I am looking for some advice.
Thanks

Planning on only pulling 20ft containers or low loaders? The length between the front of the cab and the back of the sleeper is over 15ft, leave a foot between that and the headboard of the trailer and you’re at less than 39ft left for the trailer unless its a low loader as an artic with a low loader trailer can be an extra 1.5m/6ft long, 18m/59ft total length.
The wheelbase is 6.6 metres/21ft, over 2.6 metres or 8.5ft longer than a typical UK tractor unit which is going to make it real fun with a trailer on trying to get it down some of the UK roads, around some of the UK streets and manoeuvring in a lot of delivery locations.
Literally unusable in the UK other than as a show vehicle or converting to a recovery truck.
Can’t be done apparently I wanted a kenworth k200 or k220 as it is now with euro 6 but it’s a definite no .

The length is only a minor issue ,it’s the type approval and or construction & use .

But a useful titbit to throw into a DCPC covering weights and dimensions to stimulate some thinking
Strangely enough though, I have on the odd occasion seen LWB American trucks towing 13.6 metre trailers in the UK and thought “How do they get away with that?” Perhaps there is some type of exemption for certain loads?

IVA now also applies to heavy trucks.
You could probably get a used one through the IVA system like any other non type approved import.
With the win win of all rhd and that cab over is around as common as conventional in the AU and NZ markets.
