hi does anybody have any info or photos on wensleydale haulage from leyburn north yorkshire.i think they were all volvos and where orange or white and orange but i could be wrong.
Hi ragamuffin,
There was a haulage company called Wensleydale Coal & Coke Haulage , - I think that was their name.
This would be around 30 years ago. IIRC, the colours would be as you describe , and their depot was in Leyburn
Railway Goods Yard.
Sorry, but I`ve no photographs.
Another haulage company from Askrigg , was C.F. Abraham , and their fleet colours were pale brown
with maroon mudguards.
There was also Tony Biker from Leyburn, whose tippers were of a similar colour.
Hope this is of help to you.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
hi cattle man it was tony biker i was thinking about. i think they had some volvo f10,f12,f7,.as i would see them packed up around leyburn market in the center of town now then thanks again
There was also Reg Heugh Haulage & scrap man, He used to run spratts from North Shields in the 70s, Also there was Binks Transport with the blue artics they hauled concrete pipes from tha area, Regards Larry.
Another old firm comes to mind Wilkinsons Transport, I remember one of their drivers having an 8 wheel AEC flat, He quite often used to get on the Quayside at Newcastle & get a load of Bacon for Lancashire off Baxters that I worked for 50/60s, Era, Regards Larry.
Biker are on the moor road in leyburn now all Volvo I think white cab with orange details
I remember when I was an apprentice at Tate Trucks Leeds in 1965 I think and Wensleydale Coal & coke bought a 6 wheeler D series with a â– â– â– â– â– â– â– V6 in it . It was grey with red signwrighting I think . I hope this helps a bit . Regards Jeff Ellener.
I remember in the late 60’/early 70’s Binks from Leyburn running over to S.■■■■■■■■formerly Westmorland) with cattle food the motors were LAD Albion Reiver flats and they would often re-load in Libbys at Milnthorpe as subbies for K.Fell & Co and IIRC out of James Cropper Papermakers. They usually loaded for Yorkshire/Hull areas which was where they loaded the cattle food.I believe they bought their Reivers from Hudson Engineers the Leyland dealers at Sandside,Milnthorpe.Cheers Bewick.
