Hi Matt,
Think I got the name right, thought I saw the beacon flash, never thought of it being you,are you on that most of the time,or are you spannering. We were eating our tea, fish & chips. Tracy was late home from work,so we popped over to the chippy.
Cheers Dave

only evenings and weekends, spannering for another company during the week, i flashed the beacons as the horn is broken,

A break from the truck show, plenty more to come. Pictured here is Jack Jones who ran Unicorn Transport for many years.Jack was the Landlord of the Unicorn Pub in Weobley,Hrefordshire, hence the name of his transport business.

Jack Jones ( centre ) with two of his drivers Lou Jones who lent me these pics, not sure who the driver on the right of the pic is.

did unicorn transport used to run aec’s 4 and 6 wheelers flats and were a maroon colour that would have been late 70s early 80s

Hi ianto,
Yes they did run AEC flat’s,they were on general haulage, can’t remember who they hauled for.I know they did some for Passey Nott from Kington. I know Lou Jones who drove for them well, also Fred Rawlings Jack Jones son in law who ran PMP Transport.I will ask them what they hauled.I think they ran four or five lorries mostly.
Cheers Dave.

Hi ianto,
Just spoke to Fred Rawlings,Unicorn Transport had one AEC Mercury artic which grossed at about 24 ton, they also had a couple of Leylands with the ergo cab,a Comet and a Bison six wheeler. They hauled spuds from Pembroke, also hauled for Woodcemair at Pembridge and also Torvale who followed them. They hauled for qite a few more firms as well.
Cheers Dave.

Very smart 142 of Keedwells.

Another angle of this smart heavy haulier.

hi dave i remember unicorn and pmp transport takeing loads out of albion concrete to firms like t j read hereford george and tudor later jewsons hereford nash rocks kington and other firms and places

Hi ianto,
You are bringing back a few memories,George & Tuder in Canal Wharf,as you say now Jewsons. Is Albion Concrete still going,as I said before I used to fetch pipes from there back in the late 60’s. I go by the turn or now roundabout by Llangadog, but never turn into the place to have a look.
Cheers Dave.

Daf eight legger with a crane behind the cab.

hi dave albion concrete was a private firm and at that time was the 3rd largest producer of box culverts in the country it was a thorn in the side of the large firms in the end hansons bought it they kept it going for 3 years before closeing the factory transfering pipe production to mells in somerset and culvert production to the derby plant the yard now is burdens main yard for wales.albion used to run their own waggons before selling them to their drivers onw was a bedford km with a york axle conversion that was an f reg 1967 that had a total rebuild when about 10 years old another that was run was a commer commando an n reg bought new by albion and later sold to the driver and that lorry is still in existanse owned now by the son of the driver it is dry stored and being referbished

Hi ianto,
I have seen Burdens lorries down that way, didn’t realise that their yard was in Llangadog. It’s a shame that most of the smaller independent producers have been bought out by the big outfits and then closed. Be nice to see the Commando when it’s finished. There are quite a few models that don’t seem to get restored, some makes seem to be out of fashion with the classic truck boys.
Cheers Dave.
