Hi Harry, no problem in painting the wheels, silver hammerite be ok ?, unfortunatly the motor has long gone though, and no plans to buy another at the mo.,(although never say never),depends on what happens after next Friday ■■.If I ever do then I will be looking for a steady driver with a shed load of experiance, so ill yet you know.
regards Andrew.

Oh and p.s., Harry, whats your handballing like these days ?, No, on second thoughts dont answer that
regards Andrew.

Harry, prehaps you would have prefered one of these, shant say which one was the better, but I have always been a Volvo man. although I wishthat I still had that Morris pickup behind the F88.
regards Andrew.

Hi Dave do you remember Blowers transport from Wattlesborough ? They were a ERF dealership and a haulage firm ?

Do you mean Blowers from Halfway House Shrewsbury

Hi Tony,
Yes I do remember Blowers, you threw me with the name Wattlesborough, thought you meant a different firm, didn’t know that was the name of where they were from.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave yes the one from Halfway house/ Wattlesbourough. I knew one of his daughters she was a friend of my wifes. I was also a friend of her ex’s but I don’t want too go there ! Sadly Reg has passed RIP . Swains bought the yard afterwards then a Foden dealer ship bought the yard I think now they do Hino trucks . Reg loved his ERF’s and Gardner engines he was ERF through and through . They used too be a dealer for ERF’s in this area. He did up and old ERF 8 wheeler . I don’t know where it is now but it was a really good job. It used too go too a lot of the shows. Tony

hiya.
Had a love affair with an F88 Andrew, we had several in sleeper and day cab variaties i had a sleeper cab job but never used the bunk, so it was really wasted on me, but what a motor, i tramped that old girl for a long time she was getting on a bit and eventually “died” to be replaced by a day cabbed Seddon which took a bit of getting used to having had acres of room to throw my gear all over in the big cab, and Andrwe the handballing skills are long expired just like the class one, i’m now as much use as a concrete parachute to the haulage industry, still a mine of information though, but i’m afraid most of it useless.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi Harry, shame about your class 1 being expired, never mind though, if I ever get another truck ill take you on as a trailer boy, your tales will help pass the motorway miles, back to the old 88, great motor, she was a 240,with a splitter on the dash and had the blue trim,I used to be envious of the later 290s plush brown trim. The one thing with the old volvo is that you never went far without a spanner to nip up the trailer brakes !!!, unfortunatly the dreaded rust bug ate up the old girl, it got so bad towards the end that you used to have to strap the passenger door closed to stop it opening on right hand bends, and you didnt have to stop at the services on a rainy night to get a shower, used to be a collection of containers to catch the drips, mind you I loved that lorry, it had the exhaust under the front bumper, and boy would it howl in a tunnel, I can still remember that sound, and in the days before speed limiters you could pedal it on the downhills, knock it into overdrive and try to carry enough speed to get most of the way up the next hill before you dropped it back into gear.
It does lead to the question as to how many young drivers would put up with a truck like this ?,
regards Andrew.

Hi Tony,
Have seen one of Blowers old moters featured in a magazine somewhere, also think there is a scale model of it as well.
Used to see them about in the 80’s,but not much after that, was that around the time they packed up.
Cheers Dave.

Another pic of the ex B & J Davies wagon, now in Lloyds colours.

Jet watching the loading of a Cat Dozer onto his lowloader.

Blowers old place at Halfway House is now owned by Trevor Parry, they are a Foden service dealer and I have found them really helpful and they dont make you sit in a waiting room like most of em. Trevor gets round the shows with a AEC 8 wheeler flat, be worth a trip up to get a photo Dave. Ithink he owned it years ago and managed to buy it back after it was restored.Mark
