Called at the Gore Quarry today and my old mate John Williams gave me a load of pics that his son Clive had scanned for me. Here’s a line up of Tilcon and some of the former Tilcon drivers moters after they sat up on their own.
Three of John’s Fodens pictured in the 90’s.
Another shot of one of C W Griffiths Volvo’s.
nice one Dave
off topic a bit - but what’s the story of the corrugated little chapel building near the bend in the road, just past C W Griffiths>?
Hi Steve,
That was called the reading room, which I presume was used to teach people to read many years ago. In my time it was used a a mens club, with a billiard table, dart board etc, which all the villages had around here,no alcohol allowed. The reading room was also used on saturdays for the local football team Dolyhir to change in,they disbanded in the late 70’s,they played in the North Hereford league, the pitch was where the block yard is now, right opposite Griffiths yard, the away team changed at the Harp Inn at Old Radnor, just up the hill.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Steve,
Just remembered that was built by the local squire’s wife I think, who owned everything in that area including the mineral rights to the quarries, possibly to teach the kids to read also as a sunday school, have heard the history, but forgot a lot of it. I live in a different parish about 2 miles from there.
Cheers Dave.
One of Tilcon’s Fodens which had just been sold possibly to John, seen at the Gore in the mid 80’s.
