Could do with a few more of these throughout the country,no salt in those days.

not much has changed. Gwynedd council are running out of salt. they are mixing dust from minffordd quarry with salt to make it last a bit longer.

Hi jonmea,
You have probably seen on the Welsh news our lot Powys are running out as well. Why don’t they use chippings on top of snow,in 1963 thats all they had, blade it off, then put chippings on top, everyone managed to get about,it was only the drifts on Radnor Forest and other high routes that were blocked.
Cheers Dave.

We have gone over the Scotish Border for this one, taken from a card given to me by Alan Spillett, from an original painting by him, this ERF is one of his British eight wheeler collection.

The coldest most inhospitable place in south Wales is ---- wait for it ----(in my opinion) Hiruan P. S. even in Summer as well. Bewick

Hi Dennis,
Never stopped for fuel down there, was it near to Trever G Phillips garage  .Used to stop at the Don cafe,at the top of Glyneath pitch, one of the best cafes ever in my opinion. Used to take stone down to South Wales and load bulk slag from Margam back, with a Bedford TK gross weight 14 tons, with a 4 speed gearbox, used to be hard work, some of these moaning about the modern kit, should have a crack at that.
Cheers Dave.

Bang on Chris,it was a hard slog, you came over a sharp bend over a railway bridge at the bottom, and it was two miles of hard grind up to Hirwaun, much better now its dualled, but the lorries still get slowed down.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dennis,
Never drove anything down there heavier than a D series Ford six wheeler with a 360 turbo,it was better than the TK by a country mile. My sprinter has more power than the Tk with 156 bhp.
Cheers Dave.

My TK went well from the Storey Arms down towards Brecon,if you could stop it waltzing all over the road,it was only a short wheelbase tipper with nearly ten ton on.
Cheers Dave.
