Dave the Renegade:
Avery weighbridge testing unit, seen on the A470 near Storey Arms on Brecon Beacons.
They visit us about 3/4 times a year at Gill Mill: Part maintenance contract plus a couple of Trading Standards tests as it’s a public weighbridge. PITA when it’s trading standards as they take ages and wont let lorries weigh in or out using lorry and shovel weighers.

They have a couple of weighbridges at Dolyhir/Strinds quarries and when the Gore weighbridge is out of action, they send the lorries over there to weigh.
Cheers Dave.

Fryske; Do you ever get up Oxon/Glos way with your photography? A few picturesque spots up here for lorries working hard…
I’d like to - actually — what are the good spots - ?
Hello Fryske, I’d suggest Burford High Street looking down for lorries working hard; Nice and steep with lovely ancient stone buildings either side.
Chipping Norton Worcester Road (A44 I think it is, near the cemetery) many fridge wagons coming up from the growers out Evesham way en route for London and the M40 etc. Nicely wooded either side with the old Bliss Tweed Mill chimney in the background.
Bunkers Hill near the old Blue Circle cement works on the A4095. Tipper lorries belonging to Smiths of Bletchingdon are very common here as their head office is nearby, plus lorries avoiding the A34.
A361 near and through Lechlade is very good again for tipper companies, mixers, farm wagons etc. Just before Lechlade on the Burford side is a trout farm and a an old mill in a wooded area with a tea van around the corner
I’ll have a think for more…

A Hanson liveried Volvo FM eight legger tipper, seen climbing up the A470 on Brecon Beacons towards the Storey Arms.
Dave, Heard that Hanson hauliers are on strike in South Wales. I would go too but our lot wouldnt stand together. Mark
Wouldn’t blame you if you did go on strike Mark, also these up here should do the same. These big quarry concerns don’t care about anyone other than themselves.
The pic on the Beacons was taken over two weeks ago in the hot spell in March.
Cheers Dave.

Rumour has it that one of the big quarry owners has started buying some of their own tippers,as they can’t get many to haul for them Rowly. They may need to purchase some more unless they up the rates by quite a bit.
Cheers Dave.
Could be a South Wales,Bayston Hill or Stowfield artic. There are atrics from all three locations hauling from these quarries every day.Plus the local artis and a lot of outsiders.

The white Tarmac livery is not unattractive but it would be nice to see more unique liveries!

The stupid idiots running the big quarries are to blame. Muppets who wouldn’t know a wagon from on old tin bath and who only look at the short term. I’ll give an example.
I had a customer, the boss and 3 lads, nothing massive but he provided me with good, local work and always paid immediately. I’d carried a bit of stone here and there and mainly just did muckshifting for him. He wanted some tar for a job he had. He asked me for a price on the haulage and waiting time. I gave him a competetive quote and even said I’d help him on the barrow. He booked me for the Saturday morning, this was the Wednesday. He rang me back on Thursday morning saying sorry but he’d have to get it delivered because the quarry were going to deliver it cheaper. I asked how much and he said they were doing it for nothing. The price delivered was the same price collected! How can I compete with that ffs ?

Could happen if Lafarge get hold of it,although most of them will be white in a couple of years Steve due to the cost of painting them.
