Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

Front view of Robin C Conod’s Marathon tractor unit.

Here’s a sight that you will no longer see in Radnorshire, last year BT decided it would be cheaper to use contractors to replace/renew telephone poles in Wales.

This Pole Erection Unit ran out of Llandrindod Wells with the two Williams Brothers from Builth Wells operating the machine.

HI Dave, the MAN unit also pulls a bulk trailer loaded with scrap metal.
K.B.H.S. are basd in LLanelli, and also run 8 whheel MAN’s on muckshifting and quarry duties.August’ T&D has a couple of pages on them when Bob Tuck visited their base. Andrew Cooper of Bridgend does their paintwork.
Cheers Paul

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the info, shalll have to get a T&D and have a look. I read on Alan Spilletts Roadscapes website, they are shifting 89,000 tons of big boulders from different parts to Aberaeron,so its going to keep a few trucks busy.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Snifferdog,
Don’t know any of the Builth blokes that worked on BT. I know three from Hereford who come up over the border, they run a Daf box van and a landrover, expect they are probably under threat as well.
Cheers Dave.
