This Foden Alpha has murals of Fred Dibnah on the cab, seen on the A40 near Llandovery,Carmarthenshire.Dave this Foden looks like the last foden built and the first owner was J.Roff of Marlborough if its the correct one !!
Hi Steve,
Could well be,its a nice motor with the Fred Dibnah theme on it.Paul Griffiths from this area has one of the last Foden Alpha eight wheelers built also on an 06 plate.
Cheers Dave.
Smiths and Cullimores have 56 plated ones. Two of three of ours can go into London as the body builders were slow to finish them.

Hard hat hi viz you name it Nathan. Its a different world to when Mann-Abell ran the Gore quarry.I don’t think any of the generation of drivers from those days would like it now.I was one of the young one’s then, those older blokes didn’t go much on rules and regs, they just got on with the job. They were going to Hampshire and back with those Albions which is 400 miles in those days.
Cheers Dave.

Mann-Abell had a load of Albions from new Steve. The previous batch they had in 1968/9 were Gloucester registration, these in 1971/2 replaced them.Tilcon bought Mann-Abell about two years later and replaced the Albions with Foden eight wheeler tippers.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Once delivered some hefty machinery into a newly built crisp plant,Widnes I think it was,
got talking to a guy who would be on the production process and he said for every artic
load of spuds arriving at goods in it would take five artics of the same size to take the
end product away from the end of the production line, is there any truth in this, to me
it does seem a bit far fetched, I bet Gary Lineker would have the answer.

Probably would Harry,as its volume not weight with the end product. There is a Smiths/Walkers factory at Fforestfach near Swansea,so that artic possibly hasn’t come far.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Bit off thread Dave but the stuff I was delivering was to do with filtering
the water after the preparation process, seemingly the water from the
outflow pipe was actually drinkable and the most profitable part of the
manufacturing process in percentages was the potato starch collected in
the washing and peeling part of the job, PS it was the same guy that told
me this that told me about the 5 to 1 trailer ratio, just wondering should
the fellah’ have been a member of the tall story club ■■.
thanks harry long retired.

Don’t know much about the crisp making process Harry. There is a firm making crisps near Leominster called Tyrells. There Is always a lot of steam coming from there.Suppose the story about water coming through spuds would be pure. The naughty boys launder red deisel through them.
Cheers Dave.
