Cheers Dave.
hello dave,
yes indeed there is a very sad story on the young lad that used to drive the foden,i spoke to him when he brought it to the swansea show some time ago and he had some big plans to alter the trailer or even purchasing a steered trailer to go behind the foden but very sadly it was not to be. .

A big 360% machine to swing on tyres instead of tracks.
Hi Dave and Graham, one of if not the first wheeled 360 excavators was built in Wales. It was a HY-MAC, built in Rhymney many years ago.
The chief designer was my uncle, who later designed the Powerfab mini excavators. Unfortunately neither of these once great companies are in business. Good engineering companies that employed real craftsmen, and many others who supplied them. What happened!
Regards Paul

Quite agree Paul. This country is just a retail park now.Its a crying shame when you think of the once proud British engineering companies that have been lost.
Cheers Dave.

Cheers Dave.

hello paul john,
long time no speak,it was a crying shame that hymac did,nt get far in the manufacture of it,s products .i happened to know of their testing facilities at the old rtb quarry at trefil, they had a good r&d team but it was plain that the cash dried up and in the 70s the germans came in with their o&k s and liebherrs and done to hymac what volvo & scania and a couple of others done to the british truck manufactures.going off the truck forum a little bit if you remember the hymac 880 there was nothing to touch them for their reach capabilities, better park up now.
regards graham.

Hi Graham, Yes the HY-MAC products were good, finally having a cracking 360 tracked (580) and wheeled machines, along with the (370) 2/4 wheeled loader / 180 digger.
When they ran into cashflow problems they were bought out by a German venture capital type company, who I believe bought Hanomag, and certain rights to Terex equipment. The idea was to widen their market and equipment offering, sharing r&d,engineering and distributorships. I believe the money ran out before any success was realised.
To be honest, I think it was the marketing of British products or lack of that brought about their demise.
Good to see you are staying busy,
Regards Paul.
