Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

Would imagine tis is an ex C W Griffiths Foden 3000 series, pictured here, it was in Pauls album, so I have posted it, nice looking tipper anyway.

This picture was taken in 1994/5, by the late Harry Jones, a Quarry Man for over forty years.
It shows C W Griffiths yard with some of the fleet, also the entrance and weighbridge of the Strinds Quarry.
C W Griffiths yard and the Strinds has changed quite a bit since then.
Harry took this picture off the top of the Dolyhir Quarry where he worked.

One time pride and joy, of some owner in the fifties, this Austin A30 saloon was aquired by Paul Griffiths, for the FO number.

One of C W Griffiths 4000 series Fodens in the old Nash Rocks colours on the wash at Dolyhir, in the nineties.

The next few photo’s that I post, are what I have found in Paul Griffiths album, which he has kindly lent me.
Pictured at the Great Dorset Steam Fair at Stourton, in the mid eighties. This Micky Mouse Foden, now belongs to Ken Watkins, of Leintwardine, Herefordshire, as far as we know.

Found this one in Pauls album, its one of Sharples of Eardisley. Don’t think I have had this pic of the Foden tractor unit featured here, taken in Sharples yard.

Another pic, from Paul Griffiths album. Veteran Haulage contractor Tony Lewis from Peterchurch, standing by an old Atkinson eight wheeler, at the Great Dorset Steam Fair.

Another pic of Tony Lewis,he has been a haulier a long time, perhaps this was his first vehicle.

Another British classic lorry, four wheeler Atkinson, pictured in Dorset.

G’day
I found an article on Sharples in a magazine from 1986,seems they ran their gear for a long time. The Micky Mouser would have been 20 plus years old,not bad for a tipper. They look like a real old fashioned haulage firm, are they still around Dave?
Cheers Jamie

Hi Jamie,
THe driver in the cad of the Micky Mouse Foden is Jack Williams from Kington, who I worked with when we drove for C M Philpotts of Kington. The driver stood by the side of the aartic is John Williams ( no relation ) who drove Sharples first and last artic. I remember that article, trouble is that I don’t keep my magazines. Sharples finished last autumn Jamie.
Cheers for posting them.
Dave.

Another from the Dorset show.Looks like an AEC eight wheeler, can’t quite see the badge.

Another pic of this old British classic, once one of the long distance moters, that tramped the roads of the UK.

A nice Scania 142, taken at the Great Dorset Steam Fair, by Paul Griffiths.

Another of Paul’s pics from the Great Dorset Steam Fair, an Atki eight legger flat bed.

Took this picture in the 80s at newark show ground.

Taken from a different angle with the vulcan bomber in background.

Thanks for posting the pics of the Atkinson Nigel. Looks a nice old moter, was the pic with the Vulcan Bonber taken at
Newark as well.
Cheers Dave.

Yes mate it was.You might not believe it but it was taken at the first truckfest wich was held at newark in about 1982.Somewhere
in my many boxes of photos,is the winner of that truckfest witch if my memmory serves me right was a volvo F10 belonging to
brian yardsley. Not many people remember the truckfest being held at newark,as it was moved to peterborough the following year.
Perhaps this would be a good topic for posting.
