Pete Hi , is this Craddocks Wolverhampton ? A49 Whitchurch , cc .

Hi CC,
Yes its one of Craddock Brothers heading north just before A49 island before Whichurch by-pass was built, I’m not sure if this was the truck that used to park on the petrol station in No mans Heath, Cheer’s Pete

One from Bromyard,

Evening al,

Interesting posts on here!

That Craddock Bros Atkinson, I cannot remember if that re registered DRE 217 A came to me , or ended up with Hudson`s. There were two of them re- registered, mine was sold onto an operator up in the North East, Benson Transport, the Hudson one, (as could be expected), was dismantled! Grief they really had done some work…and still had the ratchet handbrakes on them!..When you took them out of the yard on the Old Stafford Road at Slade Heath, Alan, would check to see that the tyres were on their last legs, as well as anything else…mirrors…wipers… You got what you paid for…(so you paid on the floor)!!!

Noel Morgan, (D & N Morgan). I knew Noel and his family for many years, (our family were just up the road on the Dry Hill at Church Stretton). We had quite a few deals over the years. Atkinsons, and Volvos, plus all sorts of trailers. They, and I ended up in the rental world, as Pete says., (I am struggling to remember the name of the nice tall lad who worked for them in that yard next to Pat Blackburns, Chamber s and Cook). But he seemed a decent sort.

I had rented a 55 cu yd Tasker step frame to a Lowland Scottish lad, (on the recommendation of a Bowmaker Finance), and it turned out that Noel had rented to the same, (Barsteward), a 3600 space cab, (handsome in red, and cream)…Sufficient to say…no rentals were forthcoming after the initial ones…So off I go to reposes…not easy…as you will probably guess…

What to do?

So I have a chat to my friend, (the late) John Ball, (Graham Balls Dad),…No problem…a fee is agreed…Noel and I agree to split the cost…(he has by now given up hope of ever seeing his DAF again)…

About a week later, I turn up for work, and across my gates is parked my Tasker 55 yd…

Half eight, and Noel rings…his DAF is parked in his entrance at Craven Arms…he is over the moon with delight!..

Then I am deluged with telephone calls regarding the 20 odd tons of coal missing from the trailer, …plus net…and anything else that can be imagined…all of which I ignore…

No wonder I stopped rentals into Hire and Reward operators!

Happy memories indeed!

Cheerio for now.

My father bought a second hand Mercedes 1617 reg KNT535W from D & N Morgan it was a chassis and cab think it did have a demount fitted though they did fit a platform body it was white in colour and it had been on contract but cant remember what contract

Hi Ianto , would that have been Wye plastics ? D N Morgan had motors on contract to them , but there was also a textile company whose name i have forgotten also , regards Keith .

CC,
He has just gone past where he parked up, the old cattle market was on your left hand side as you crossed the lights on the A525 station road, Cheer’s Pete

Hi Keith,
I presume they had a few as there is a four wheeler knocking about in their colours, I bet their drivers are glad they run fridges now! Cheer’s Pete

No wonder they turned to fridges- they only put half a load of bales on!

What is this Trucknet Member trying to tell me when i took this photo a while back .

That must have been just about the time Growcott became GrowContinental, was it? I have a pic of a ERF demo vehicle on an N-plate in temporary Growcott colours. Robert

Hiya,
Yes Tracy truly a miss, I was in this my 80th year determined to have a meet-up with
Dave somewhere at one of his beloved shows, it would have mean’t me travelling by
public transport not wanting to drive very far nowadays but to have the meet-up was
something I was determined to do and had one or two possibilities “pencilled in” but
now that can’t be, I did feel like I knew Dave personally although never meeting him,
Nice to see his pages being kept alive in his memory and long may it continue.
thanks harry, long retired.
