Hiya,
It does look an OK motor but I’ll bet it doesn’t replace his Scania, maybe Graham
will give us a comparison report after his trial period concludes.
thanks harry, long retired.

Cheers Dave.

Hello Dave and Harry,
I cant see the reason why DAF are offering an engine so small which incidentally is their biggest one in a tractor unit that is rated for 150 tons plus. I had a DAF 95 12 years ago and that was a 530 , I know it’s all about emmisions and those type of things but i cant see that truck being of much interest to any serious heavy haulier with the present power pack, The only way that i see at present with that truck to have a bit of life in it would be to alter the diff ratio’s which would be good for pulling but at the detriment of top speed, Sadly the only chance that i see for DAF is the tech boys at Eindoven need to consider a transplant from another maker as the R&D costs of replacing the current lump would be prohibitive. Just my humble opinion. Graham.

I would think with all your years of operating big weight haulage outfits Graham, that you and others in that particular field of the haulage industry should be consulted by these manufacturers when they are planning a new heavy haulage tractor unit.
Cheers Dave.

Hello Dave,
Most if not all truck manufacturers of today have a very sinister attitude in telling buyers what the best options are for the operation that they are involved in, It is the buyer that should be telling the manufacturer what is needed not the other way around, That is why many heavy haulage trucks are of a bespoke nature as many of the options that truck builders would prefer you to take would be little better than useless, But they are the builders and they know more about the job than the people on the ground,

I can’t understand anyone manufacturing goods or building vehicles not listening to their customers Graham. At the end of the day its you and the other drivers and operators that can evaluate them far better than they can.
Cheers Dave.
