Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

hiya,
Did a few “retired” loco’s from various locations in the early to mid 60s, 5 or 6 from memory mostly to the scrapper at Barry but one I remember I delivered to a preservation society/museum at Carnforth, but looking at your pic’s Dave the movement your fellah’s got would have made the job
much easier than I ever had it, would love a go in that rig, but would need a hand getting in and out of the shed.
thanks harry long retired.

Dave the Renegade:

Muckaway:
That steam loco looks like what is known as a British Rail Standard Class Tank; Designed in the early '50s as a “modern” steam loco that should have run until the late '70s when we were meant to be all electric. Built originally to replace the pre war engines that were knackered after the war.
…I’ll hang the anorak up now. I wonder if John’s got any Budweiser left?

Just guessing Nathan, but I reckon Allelys had picked that loco up from Llangollen where there is a steam railway and were taking it for repairs somewhere.
Cheers Dave.

I think they had a steam gala at the weekend, Dave, so perhaps that engine was going back to it’s home line?

Hi Harry,
We just happened to be in the right place yesterday and spotted the motor going down Nesscliffe bypass. Also it was OK to open the back doors of the van and Tracy could take a pic without upsetting the driver and his mate.I would think there would be a lot of people giving that load a second look.A bit more of a rare sight than when you were taking them to break at Barry. Can’t see that happening these days.
Cheers Dave.

Could be Nathan.Have to admit I know very little about trains, only been on one in my life and that was in 1960.
Cheers Dave.

Talking of Barry scrapyard, some of the last locos to leave that have never been restored are being dismantled to build “extinct” classes of engines. This is made possible because the GWR had standard patterns for boilers, wheelsets etc and the unrestored wrecks were the worst in at Barry inyears past, hence they were passed over by preservationists. Shame nobody has a “Barry Scrapyard” for old lorries…
