jsd:
Jim Mulvey was the last to drive that little Daf Dave, always spotless inside.

Ah yes I knew Jim, he drove for Chris Hazel, haven’t seen him around for a long time.
Cheers Dave.

I have seen your curtainsider’s about James, also got pics of them at Hereford Truckshow.
Cheers Dave.

Turbo Tom was a member on Trucknet a few years ago. I remember you pulled up for Tracy to take that pic.
Cheers Dave.

Pretty sure this is Doug with the AEC, being loaded at the Gore.

Yeah i think that is Granddads AEC Dave but unfortunately we have no photos of that or have a dozen or so after it.

I can see the drivers arm James, and Doug was a bigger bloke than Freddie Brace, or Derek Bounds who drove for Freddie, so I would say that its Doug behind the wheel.
Cheers Dave.

Fair play James, between you, and Paul Griffiths, you have both given this thread a boost today.
Cheers Dave.

Only a puff of ■■■ smoke from the window would confirm it but I’m sure you’re right Dave

Derek smoked, also Freddie I think, as did quite a few in those days, except me and a few more that were petrol heads.
Cheers Dave.

New Daf loading in Wellington Quarry for it’s maiden voyage

John West:

Hiya,
Dave these lads have a yard about a mile from my place it’s Pickfords old yard and next
door to the Aluminium works who they have the contract with that motor would most
likely have been loaded out of there.
thanks harry, long retired.

You’ll know better than me Harry - think Allinsons have been round a long time - seem to remember seeing their trucks (sorry - lorries) in the early seventies. As soon as you see the name your brain attaches the town, Darlington.

Bit like Eddie Stobart - Caldbeck!

Oh, aren’t they there any more? Wash my mouth out with soapy water!

John

Hiya,
Yes John Allinsons are still in their main depot at Faverdale Darlington but are currently
using Pickfords old yard at Birtley to keep several trailers and there is usually a couple
of units knocking about their customer the aluminium extruder are directly next door a
handy place to be I reckon, out of one gate into another and park up.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hi Harry,
Same as you and John I’ve seen George Allinson wagons about for years, never relly looked on the side to see where they are from. They must have a big fleet.
Cheers Dave.

They got a small yard in Cinderford down in the Forest…

I remember that lorry well. I was in KTH office part-time, and I think, you or your Dad did the odd load for them.
Cheers Dave.

We both did a bit for Delahays and KTH once they took over.
Cheers James
