Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

Thanks Larry. Here is the evidence of how the vehicles have changed over the years.

A couple more from last Sunday at Gaydon.

I still can’t get my head around how big we thought the lorries were, back when we were driving Guys & Atkis. Alongside the Daf they look like toys!

My point exactly Casey, those wagons looked big up against the Bedfords and Thames Traders in the 1960’s, and now they are dwarfed by the modern units.
Cheers Dave.

You don’t realise that they’re getting bigger until you see a photo like that!

Perhaps it was the angle of the previous pic. This ERF looks a bit bigger against the Daf.

My point exactly, Dave. The ERF was quite a bit higher than the Atki & Big J, but smaller than the Daf which came after it. And there are still drivers who whinge about not having enough room in modern cabs!

I hear them whinging and read them on other forums, they don’ know they are born Casey. Half of them would roll over and die, if they were asked to lift a 2 cwt sack and carry it.
Cheers Dave.

Some more from the Retro show.

Moving down the row again.

A smart Volvo on the end of this row.

Steve Swain has always ran nice wagons, and these are in that category.

Not sure if the older Scania is Steve Swains.

A pair that have got a few miles overland on the clock.

A couple of Volvo’s.

Plenty of lights for the desert.

Hiya,
Would have loved to have done the Gaydon “thing”, some cracking stuff there, quite
a mix of old and new the current stuff is of zero interest to me, I can walk a short
distance and stand on a motorway bridge and watch new stuff for free all day long
if I choose too but there aren’t many old Atki’s, ERF’s and Big Js travelling the A1 M
in this day and age, So Dave it’s a big thank you to yourself and Tracy and others
who go out of their way to take pics and post them for myself and no doubt many
more TNUK members and I suppose there are a lot of “just looker in’s” who do also
appreciate the efforts that you go to to keep filling the pages with items of interest.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hi Harry,
Good that people like yourself enjoy the pics. I actually see more of the vehicles in the photo, than on the day. I enjoyed the Retro show. A lot of good vehicles there, a credit to the owners. My favourate show is the Classic show at Gaydon in June which has some of the Retro stuff, plus lorries from the 50’s and 60’s which was more my era. Tracy does the camera work, all I do is upload them and post them.
Cheers Dave.

Two with the famous name on them.
