Dave- my apologies for using this thread as a test bed, but I’m having trouble posting and wanted to see if this was working.
Well, that seems to work OK so let’s see if it will let me post pics
Nope, still won’t let me.
Carry on, chaps!

Same here ROF been having the same problem all evening, tried everything and the only one what lets me post photos is photobucket which I dont hold many pics on now.
I’ve sent a PM to Rikki- there was a problem on a few different threads earlier in the day so maybe it’s something to do with that.
We’re up & running again. It’s safe to come out of hiding, Dave!

Hiya,
I reckon Dave is out and about with the camera filling it up with goodies to
grace his pages, he deserves a rest methinks just recharging his batteries.

The guy big j was far from an 8 pot percy thrower, it had a leyland 400 in it apparently it is a cut down ridgid.Yep -it was a 16 tonner with RF Steels
- Dave - you may have seen it in it’s earlier guise - it was resting in Tony Lewis’ yard - with a curtainsider body
Then it appeared at the Malvern sale in 2010
Then it was bought and restored as a unit --no idea why it deserved to get chopped down… but at least it was saved
It looks better now imho
Tony did run several curtainsiders in the 1980’s as well as tippers, so perhaps he did have a Guy. I will try and remember to ask him next time I see him Steve.
Cheers Dave.
As I was about to say before the gremlins interrupted proceedings, The Big J was the subject of a nut & bolt rerstoration by Graham Bayliss of Stockport. I last saw it at Malcolm Harrison’s dispersal sale in December of last year when it looked like this…
Hiya,
A lot of drivers didn’t like the Big J, one complaint was supposed to be the driving
position, now I drove them for quite a while and liked them when powered with a
Roller or a ■■■■■■■■ I did get lumbered with a 180 Gardner engine version for half
a shift and I thought that was rubbish by comparison It was only to do a bit of local
and had it been any further I’d have jacked, I came off a clapped out Volvo F88 to
drive Seddon and Guy the lack of room and the comfort was a shock to the system,
but the reliability of the afore mentioned motors was second to none the Volvo was
forever under repair having had a hard life prior to me getting to grips with it, but
had I had the chance to swap for another stalwart of the era it would have been a
case of “no contest” my favourite at that time which I’d occasionally got to drive
was the Roller engined Scammell Crusader fantastic motor of that time.

Thanks for posting on the thread everyone. Had a week at Christchurch,Dorset, not many pics of lorries, as we were by the sea most days,as the weather was excellent.
One of Stephen Deakins Mercs, seen on the A44 at Stanner, Radnorshire.
Some I sneaked with my mobile at services on the M27, as the Sherrif was booking drivers parked for the night.
Also saw this one from Welshpool.
