David Edwards in his Scania with the lifeboat tractor which are built in Knighton by Clayton Engineering Ltd. David and his family own the premises where Clayton’s build these tractors. Trucknet member atkidave is an engineer at Clayton Engineering.
Great pics David.
Cheers Dave.

Thanks for that info Dave, it explains the registration number on the Evans and also I had been wondering why anyone from Knighton would
have been involved with lifeboats, they can’t be used much in that part of the world.

If you have a look on Clayton Engineering website, it shows the specialist equipment they build, including the lifeboat launcer’s.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
These always looked well and seemed to go well but never got a go in one, what were
the engine choices,? one that used to pass me regular had a throaty roar and it would
catch pigeons it was from over ■■■■■■■ way and it always passed me just South of the
A66 where it crosses the A1 and when he appeared in the mirror he wasn’t in view for
very long round me and gone usually offering me a box of matches when cab to cab.

Hi Harry,
Could have been a Detroit Diesel or a 290 ■■■■■■■ in the one you mention. The Detroit would have a throaty sound to it. No Doubt Geoffrey Carryfast will be along to put us right.
Cheers Dave.

The guy big j was far from an 8 pot percy thrower, it had a leyland 400 in it apparently it is a cut down ridgid.

Yep -it was a 16 tonner with RF Steels

  • Dave - you may have seen it in it’s earlier guise - it was resting in Tony Lewis’ yard - with a curtainsider body

Then it appeared at the Malvern sale in 2010

Then it was bought and restored as a unit --no idea why it deserved to get chopped down… but at least it was saved

It looks better now imho

Tony did run several curtainsiders in the 1980’s as well as tippers, so perhaps he did have a Guy. I will try and remember to ask him next time I see him Steve.
Cheers Dave.

It was 5 years ago when i snapped it so I can’t remember all the details but iirc it came from the Conods ■■

Send my regards when you do see him
