Alf Arrowsmith & Son’ Dodge Kew from Market Drayton, seen at Knighton livestock market today
Friday 17th Febuary 2012.hiya,
Some motor that Dave, wonder how many engines it’s had certainly won’t be the original
with all those years behind it unless it isn’t used very often, I remember a Kew that had
two new engines fitted in a very short time, nearly skint the O/D, I think it was Perky
powered say no more even a lightfoot (erm) like me could quickly kill them.
thanks harry long retired. The last firm I drove for had one as a spare motor Harry.I drove it several times. It had a Perkins 6354 engine.I didn’t like driving it to be honest it was cramped sat in the thing.OK for the short blokes but anyone around 6’ wouldn’t be comfortable. That one of Alf Arrowsmiths has been featured in truck mags a few times.I would have thought it has had a few engines,as you say. That lorry is about fifty years old.
Cheers Dave.
I think it currently has a Perkins Phaser – one of several engines!
And the cab has had several rebuild too.
Great shot Dave - thanks for posting it.

Cheers Dave.

That Dodge was featured in CVC about 2/3 years ago, Dave.

Just a lift axle as far as I know Tony, that’s if you mean small wheels on one axle on the unit.On some of the rigids it could mean they have been don plated to run at a lower rate ie a six wheeler reduced from 26 ton gross to 23.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave ,
Mac Arrowsmith s Dodge might look
original , but during its lifetime everything has periodically been replaced . There is nothing original to this cattle wagon , apart from the first Ministry Plating Certificate . When my father was about to ( semi - ) retire , he told me the following story : " When I started in livestock haulage , I had a brush , and a shovel for cleaning-out . Throughout those 42 years , I have replaced the brush head , brush shaft , and the shovel , - all many times over . I still have a brush and shovel , although not originals , but they are the
originals ` to ME ! " .
Having said that , credit must go to Mac for remaining loyal to his Dodge .
Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Hi Roy,
If you read an earlier post regarding this lorry.Steve aka Fryske says it has a Phaser engine now and has had several cabs. Also as Nathan Muckaway says it was featured in an article in CVC which I remember reading.
Cheers Dave.

Have you had anymore problems with photobucket, Dave? I’m finding it really slow tonight and doesn’t want to respond…

Thanks Dave for that. It just it doesn’t look like a lift up axle. Usually they are the same size well it was when I was driving . Bloody hell I must be getting old ! Tony
