Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

Retired Old ■■■■:
I returned from my cousin’s last night (Sunday) and the only lorry I saw was a Scania with an empty timber trailer taking a short cut Southbound between Devil’s Bridge and Tregarron. Couldn’t get the camera out in time & it was pouring with rain. It struck me that a few years ago there would have been plenty of heavies coming out of mid Wales on a Sunday making an early start to the week.

Still quite a few Casey. There are more timber lorries than ever on the Mid Wales roads, with a lot hauling into the BSW mill at Newbridge on Wye,which also has a lot of traffic taking sawn timber and wood chip out from the mill.
A W Jenkinson have 15 artics based at Newbridge on Wye hauling woodchip up to Kronospan at Chirk.
There are also a lot more hauliers running in and out of that mill,as its a 24/7 operation.
Cheers Dave.

I went down via Newbridge on the outward journey. If I’d known about the timber operation I would have stopped off for a photo or two.

Hi Dave and ROF ,
That road from Tregaron to Devils Bridge ,quite a few Mansel Davies drivers would use it as well as the timber boys . Their usedto be a firm from Tregaron , J D James who would regularly use it as well , must save a few miles . regards Keith

Danny Williams & Sons used to run up through that way Keith, but we don’t see them anymore when we are up that way. We haven’t been going up that way much over the last couple of years. I will have to persuade my camera person to come with me on a jaunt that way. I could call and see Alan Spillett the same time.
Cheers Dave.

Cheers Dave.

You could be right Dew. I haven’t got a closer pic sorry.
Cheers Dave.

Did it have “Hurling Stone” on the sun visor? I doubt he gets down as far as you, but you never know I guess.

I didn’t notice to be honest, it was right outside the Gore quarry. I thought it was one of Phil Morris drivers heading back to Dolyhir.
Cheers Dave.
