C&G mixers in West Wales were part of F H Gilman who recently closed down, their business, quarries and mixers being bought by G D Harries whose head office is in Narberth. They are separate from Breedon and Hope Concrete (they took over several Cemex plants in this area).

Good to see the mixers you posted , they must get moved around by breedon ,because that volvo AF05 FXT was parked sleaford last november ,and the daf lf55 1st mix BU53 ETJ was based at norton disney (lincoln) for a while and there is an 8 wheel scania at stamford…
Does anybody know what happened to the C &g concrete mixers that were based down at Haverfordwest ?,
The C& G red/white mixers have nearly all dissapeared from Lincolnshire now being replaced by the Breedon blue & yellow livery however i think there could be one old leyland constructer left at Elsham and a couple of the later daf 75 series still running around in the red colour.
sorry dont know anything about the c&g mixers down south wales for some reason the plants down there wernt part of the deal when breedon bought c&g,dont know whos running them or who owns them.afo5fxt is now based at telford and the 1st mix truck was based at telford but then replaced by a newer truck.

Mansel Davies used to work out of some of F H Gillman’s quarries etc. Are they still working for G D Harries, whose lorries I have seen quite a bit when travelling down into Pembroke.
Cheers Dave.

Not really sure but I do know that Mansel Davies tipper fleet has shrunk considerably (the milk collection/delivery side of the business is increasing to compensate!)… G D Harries tipper and mixer fleet has increased (note the number of mixers at the Carmarthen Show) as the firm has won a lot of road improvement/resurfacing work throughout West Wales

Hi Chris,
I didn’t get to the show at Carmarthen this year, but have noticed that Mansel Davies has got a lot of new white coloured units pulling milk tankers and several new rigids on collection. Have seen G D Harries applying for more licences so that explains things.
Cheers Dave.

Thanks for the reply , i was aware that they were trading under the F h Gilman name (but still wore C & g livery ) down in south wales and that the business was wound up but sold separately ,however i was unsure of whether the old mixers had found there way back to Stamford to be disposed of ,or whether the new owners had continued using them and whether they still had old leylands down there like they had been using up in lincolnshire…

To be honest Dave I have no idea what was going on. I didn’t ask anybody, just took some pictures and moved on.
I don’t know if the scheme has started yet David. It was all going to happen a while back. I have been their a couple of times in the last year, but haven’t taken a look. I have a friend who lives there,I will male enquiries.
Cheers Dave.

Seeing you on a bit of a mixer run Dave I thought you might like these that I
took on Pembroke Dock earlier this year.
Is that part of the new marina that is being built David ? Was in Pembroke Dock last week, but only stopped for fuel.
Cheers Dave.
Not sure where the action is here or when but earlier this year GDHarries were involved in work surrounding the construction of a new “shed” on a large site just beyond the RO RO ferry entrance in Pembroke Dock.
The mixer in the pics is ex Tarmac but now GDHarries see reg J600GDH and decals on the cab.
GDH had about 6 DAF CF mixers (+ a selection of their Scania tippers) at the Carmarthen show all with GDH registrations and in GDH maroon paintwork - inc J600GDH. The concrete pump in the pics retained its origonal reg at the time of the show.
GDH has expanded a fair bit in the last year to include a DAF Service centre. Their comprehensive website gdharries.co.uk reveals the size of the operation

I had a look on their website Chris, after you said they had expanded. Good to see a family firm giving it a good go against the big players.
Cheers Dave.

Dave,
Keep an eye open or the latest additions to the artic fleet - almost back to the origonal livery. White replaces the grey but with maroon and signwritten front panel to make the lorries stand out more on the motorway!!
ERF artic tanker, seen passing the Old Mill Cafe on the A477 near Llandowrer,Carmarthenshire. I expect this place will have to diversify into its timber business even more when the new road opens shortly.

We were down that way a week ago Chris. I expect it will be quite a while before we are that way again, unless we have some more nice days in the coming months.
Cheers Dave.
