Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

hiya,
Dave I’ve often wondered who buys all these “add-ons” for all these wagons,
surely not the haulier, most of these additions can’t legally be used and are
just adding to the tare making less payload and if the driver buys them he’s
getting paid too much, many years ago I bought a matching pair of driving
lamps for an old Octopus who’s headlamps had just about gone out due to
the lenses having tarnished over the years, when the gaffer saw me trying
to find a decent place to mount them he retorted “don’t even think about it”
adding that’s how it came that’s how it stays, so they finished up on my aged
Austin which was also suffering diminishing illumination due to a similar
problem as the Leyland, the gaffer did buy a new pair of headlamps which
did improve things and I did night trunk with the old girl, he was determined
that because he’d laid out good money for them they was going to get used.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hi Harry & Trev,
Most of the drivers I know buy the spot lamps etc themselves. In this area C W Griffiths and Ivor Duggan put spots and air horns on their wagons. I think most of the artic drivers for these big firms pay for the bling out of their own pocket.
I only put spot lamps on my own vehicles.
Cheers Dave.
