Cavlad:
Haven’t been that way in a long, long while but Swains of Stretton (as opposed to Steve Swain) actually bought the industrial estate they were on just before you come into Minsterley on the right.
Steve Swain was one of the sons if I remember correctly, and I think J Parry or T J Parry (?) (who used to be at Bayston Hill) ended up with Swains old yard just off the A458 and very near to where Blowers were.
Ancient (and probably wrong!) geography lesson over, sorry for the interruption!
You aint far wrong there cavlad! Now a lot of interesting history lies here. But Im away to yhe Bollinger, so the mystery must remain! Cheerio for now.
I reckon that’s the Happy Union Inn, Abbeycwmhir Llandrindod Wells, Dave. I should also like to point out that I definitely did NOT cheat by using Google

To be fair Cavlad I didn’t think anyone would get it. Spot on mate, you have obviously been to Abbeycwmhir.
My Mum came from that village and I still have relatives there.
Cheers Dave.
Our good friend Graham gah1950 has kindly sent some more cracking pics. His big Scania and trailer is seen with an Extec Crusher onboard in Walters Group yard.
Sorry to go off topic, Dave, but keep meaning to ask you: Did they ever re-open the quarry at Tonfanau (near Tywyn) as the truck in your avatar belongs to a firm from that area I think? They were a good bunch of lads at the quarry, especially the Brummie lad in the weighbridge office.

Hi Bill,
Tonfanau was owned by Nash Rocks from down this way on the late 1980’s,but the Leyland Bison on my avatar belongs to
C W Griffiths & Sons from Dolyhir right opposite the Strinds quarry at Dolyhir. I’ve got it as my avatar because they are the only firm that are still running that I drove for, also they are good friends of mine.
Cheers Dave.

Hi boys
Dave I was in that quarry last week picking up a 13ton machine we have had onto McPhillips. They have just put in a new access road directly onto the old A5 but indoing so have taken away the layby that had the butty van in .I can see there being a bit of fun getting out up the new road as it’s a little steep with water running down it Hope they have plenty of salt

Hi Keith,
I expect they will sort it.The man in charge of Breedon Aggregates for England is the ex MD of Tarmac for Wales and the borders and he doesn’t mess about,he still lives in Kington. I know the old A5 quite well,it must be just on down from where the Shamrock cafe used to be.
Cheers Dave.
