Dave there should be a thread for elderly working motors this one at 25 years must qualify, they can’t come much older than this and still be earning a crust.

Hi Harry,
Its on a D plate, and he has had it for well over 20 years, there are a couple more Leyland’s used on Lime run in the spring and autumn that are still working. Also these lorries are carrying 16 ton loads at 24 ton gross. The new six wheelers struggle to carry the same weight at 26 ton gross.
Cheers Dave.

Yea Chris,I bought it off Beeches Garage in Handley for £500,managed to sell it about 4 month later for IIRC £600! It was a cracking little motor, had an Eaton 2 speed axle, carried 10ton 5cwt at 14 ton GVW.I think it will be in a bridge foundation around Tebay now! I only ran dust mainly or gravel from local quarries, kept off the M6 workings proper so I believe the little Trader got a rude awakening after I parted with it!! From memory, that shot was taken on a Saturday afternoon behind my mam and dads house on Shap rd. in Kendal could have had a bit of sun in my eyes but I was happy enough in those days!! I was only 20 so my brains were still brand new!! Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
Dennis would you legally be able to drive a motor of 14 tons gross at age 20, I came out of the forces in 1956 capable and army licenced to drive heavy vehicles but being only 20 had to return to the pits (which I’d chucked and done my national service to escape) and couldn’t start driving lorries until age 21,and it was the longest year of my life well I was cab-happy in those far off days.
