Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

A Volvo FM artic, loading livestock at Kington market.

Evening all, Dave, first day for a very very long time that my wife and I have been able to have a trip out from the farm, Your pictures have for several months reminded me just how much we love Mid Wales, so have had a great day, Radnorshire, Powis, just enjoying the scenery, (and discreetly passing the places where I used to enjoy doing business)!! Gosh so many have gone! Including the old Commer agents in Llandidrod Wells, where as a small boy I went with my Uncle to collect a new Commer chassis. Great day, would not have happened without your photographs, thank you! Cheerio for now.

Yes Saviem Pritchards of Llandrindod Wells have gone,as have Automobile Palace which sold cars commercials and moterbikes. There’s very few firms left as we are to far from the motorway network. We had several big ( in 60’s & 70’s ) hauliers like Roberts of Knighton,S W Brisbane and Knills Transport also a lot of South Wales firms had drivers based in this area on changover, but with the steel and coal industries only a shadow of what they once were that has gone.
I live in the Radnor Valley not far from New Radnor. We haven’t a shop or post office where once we had about eight. We had four different fuel outlets, now they are gone. Its just a retirement area now, with a few jobs at the quarries and a few self employed people.
Different day and age,but still a nice place to live  .
Cheers Dave.
