Not sure what they were lifting off this boat in big bags.

Hi Dave,
One from down your way,had to come up
our neck of woods for a decent supper !!!
Not many places like that where you can
just park in middle of the road and go into chippy.

Cheers Malc.

We followed this Volvo FH with a Dumper on the back, belonging to Mason Bros from Narberth. From Red Roses to Pendine,it made a good trailblazer on a narrow road with its ■■■■■■ van in front.

The Pembroke to Rosslare ferry, seen passing Milford Haven heading out of the Cleddau Estuary.

A closer look at the Isle of Inishmore with a Mansel Davies trailer seen on the back.

They unload bags of shellfish ,I see them on Swansea dock unloading the small fishing boats. Don’t know who the customer is,maybe Penclawdd cockle factory. Will ask next time I’m down there

hiya,
Just an observation Dave but more likely to be shrimps or prawns, cockles are usually collected from terra firma when the tide is out prawns are trawled for and bagged up to be lifted ashore in the manner illustrated in the pics, did I mention I was a bit nautical many moons ago did a spot of deep sea fishing off Iceland didn’t last long though only three or four trips and all during the Winter months brrr dragged the old HGV out of the drawer and went back on the road still usually frozen in those cabs of yesteryear though and the driving didn’t pay as well by a long way, the fisherman’s wages were top dollar in those days often wished I’d made my career out of it,and just think I might have been able to match Chris Webb for money and been able to afford to retire and live in luxury on the I.O.M, ah dream on.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi Harry,
Had remembered you had been on the boats.I don’t know much about sea fishing.I enjoy watching the program’s on TV about the trawlers and fishing boats, looks rough dangerous and cold work.I love watching fishing boats coming into a harbour, not that there are so many nowadays.I like the sound of some of the marine engines there’s a nice bark to them.
I was luckier with the HGVs,nearly all the lorries I drove had a heater, some better than others.A couple of long nosed Austin 5 tonners on Brisbanes of Knighton didn’t have heaters and they were bought new in 1964.The tight buggers didn’t put heaters in them,as they were an extra. The old boys that drove them were on hire with the Council road-men and didn’t do much mileage.I remember driving one on gritting as the regular driver was ill,it was on a weekend. The transport manager said if he’s off on Monday stay on the lorry until he comes back. When I called by his place he was waiting with his grub bag ready for work,he was only back a few days and got pneumonia, but he survived and lived to a ripe old age.
One of my mates spent the rest of the winter driving his heater-less lorry.I was back on my BMC FFK 140 with a good heater.
Cheers Dave.
