Great photos Dave keep them posting on …

An Austin ■■ which was one of the best lower priced four wheelers in its day…in my opinion.

Not sure if this one is an FFK with the under-slung engine which was a powerful motor in its day.

Hi Harry . you do have a habit of jogging my memory . based at Ipoh for a while and done a fair bit of chasing around that area in 48/49 went north a bit and remember sungi petan and bukit jam something but never got as north as alor star.all i wanted was to go south to singapore and get on that boat ! talk about a forgotten war!!

toshboy

hiya,
Beautiful old British designed and built station at Ipoh, that’s where I got
the train to Singapore to return home on the Empire Fowey, Toshboy the
train ride from Ipoh was a nightmare in the time you was there ( OK in my
time) I remember tales of the the Singapore train being attacked by the
CTs on a regular basis, another journey of mine through a bit of dodgy
road was Ipoh to the Cameron Highlands you got a bit of activity up there
from time to time, yes Toshboy a forgotten war as was Korea where I did
a short spell about three months, but I’d do it all over again.

Yes Harry,

They had us driving rail jeeps in front of the trains --sitting ducks!!! toshboy

thanks harry, long retired.

Hi toshboy,
A firm up this way B & J Davies of Bucknell Shropshire who are timber merchants had several AEC Matadors for winching timber and pulling timber carriages. The firm I worked for S W Brisbane at Knighton had one of their old ones as a wrecker. It was a good vehicle and the winch would pull most lorries out of a ditch etc.Where the one at Gaydon came from I don’t know. There wasn’t any paperwork or history with it.
Cheers Dave.
