The Farmer I was referring too has trotting horses,he doesn’t drink or smoke, but likes his trotting races, they have about four meetings each year on one of his larger fields.I can see it from here, have been a couple of times, but its not my thing.
A lot of people come here to the racing and enjoy it.
Cheers Dave.

I think the racing that takes place near you Dave will be what is called “Welsh Flapping” and is outside the rules of the British Harnes Racing Club I think I’ve mentioned that we were approached on a number of occaisions to take our horses down to Tregarron but I always declined! Although I was keen I wasn’t “all the way down that poxy road” keen! Competing always had to blend in and suit the buisness, not the other way round, which was always a source of amusement to some of the other competitors in the sport, bearing in mind the not inconsiderable success we enjoyed over the years. They would have run the legs off some of our good horses if they’d been in their ownership!! Cheers Dennis.

There are two lots around this region Dennis, one is British Harness and the other is called something else.I’m not clued up enough to say what its called, its something like Border Counties, the one lot split from the other several years ago. When it comes around this year I will find out what they are called.
Cheers Dave.

I call that fairly well clued up Dave!!! Are you sure you and Tracey don’t operate a Bookie board at the harness races? Dennis.

Hi Dennis,
Only gambling I do is the lottery. My old man lost enough backing horses.I have never had any interest in it.Used to like moterbike scrambling and road racing, but haven’t a lot of interest in that these days. One of my mates loves speedway, and he never had a bike.I had moterbikes, but don’t follow any of of it nowadays.
The one is British Harness, the other is Wales and Border Counties Harness Racing.

Decent horse!!! This is a shot of a “Decent” horse and the shot was taken at Appleby,'87,but not amongst the rubbing rags on the “Hill” but on the raceway Whit Saturday. The horse I’m stood by was my wife Anne’s "Dalestar"and he went on to win the final that day,and this was only his 3rd race lifetime!! Dennis.

Nice looking hoss that Dennis, did you use him for shunting when tha were short of tractor units? :stuck_out_tongue:

Those are all working lorries with the showman Nathan.
Cheers Dave.

I thought I hadn’t seen one that old on their fleet for a while; Dafs are making in-roads there now. I can remember them running B-series after evryone else retired them…

The red one with JW on it (John Werrells of Wooton near Abingdon). Whereas Smiths are known for their old Fodens (or were before certain people decided they were old rubbish and are determined to purge them off the fleet), Werrells are known for sticking with ERFs. They’ve bought some ECXs in the last few years (when others are trying to get rid)…

I see the one you mention now Nathan. The Fair people like the Fodens and ERF’S.I suppose they are better vehicles to park up through the winter months when they aren’t needed than the newer kit with more electrics etc.
Cheers Dave.
