This fairground ERF is parked in the shadow of a tree at Hereford.
The driver of this fairground Volvo having a read of the Sunday paper, before the work starts at Hereford.
Another Volvo belonging to the showman.
A rear view of some of the fair wagons at Hereford.
Couldn’t get a good pic of this one,but it is a car park,as well.
A wagon and drag, might suit Harry Gill,he would be a good bloke at the fair, could run the waltzer and catch the women as they fell off .

hiya,
Another axle and that would be a proper wag and drag i might be able to manage it then, once did a trip for Billy Smart’s circus cash in hand wink wink i’d already tramped up from Dover for my employer, this job entailed driving an old out of the Ark Octopus and two drawbars one full of animals and one full of bits of the big top the trailer boy was an Arab who was a tightrope walker in real life, his job was to supposedly help me with the braking but he spent the whole trip about 12 or so miles transferring old engine oil from a milk churn in the passenger side into the engine with an old baked beans can, i think the old Leyland was pumping the oil all over the road as fast as the guy was pouring it in, i can tell you that was the longest 12 miles i’ve ever driven and vowed never again it was about 1968 i was’nt very old but that short journey put years on me.

Thought it might be on the small side for you Harry, but it is a six wheeler pulling a six axle drag, but I expect you had an eight legger pulling the drag’s on BRS.
Cheers Dave.
Last one from the showmans wagons parked at Hereford, anyone for a hot dog

Always eight leggers Dave but only ever two axle single wheeled trailers i can’t remember ever seeing a BRS six wheeler and drag bet there was some though the amount of motors they had in the beginning.

The showman usually have a different setup on their trailers to most people Harry. They only run short distaces between towns where the next fair is being held.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Don’t know how well these showmens motors are maintained nowadays but when i did the "one off " for the circus the paintwork was the only decent thing about them possibly holding them together maybe new rules and regs have made them clean their act up, short runs was plenty for Billy Smart’s gear in those days i think the best speed on a bit of level going was about 15 MPH can’t be sure not much on the dash was working certainly not the speedo.

Don’t talk to me about “anyone for a hot dog”, I came back from St Albans yesterday (4.5ton on a 6wheeler ffs) and loaded at Ardley pit, realising as I’d left that I only had about 8mins driving left. I was forced to stop in the layby at Middleton Stoney that has a reputation for “George Michael moments” Just getting to sleep and 2 of our wagons come past peeing themselves at my choice of break location

Hi Harry,
Most of the showman and their families that come around Herefordshire and over the border, are mainly from the Gloucester and Ross on Wye area.Their wagons are more up to date than years ago,.They are old by haulage standards, but its more powerful kit than what they ran a few years back .Have years ago seen trailers breaking free with dodgems etc all over the road.
Cheers Dave.
Sorry about my wiper blades spoiling the pic.A tidy Volvo FM artic, seen on the A49 at Wellington,Herefordshire.
